Hi,
Im currently watching The Transporter on Blu Ray, This movie has a DTS HD track, though its playing the DTS core track, anyway, i was just wondering which output to set it to? Linier PCM or Bitstream? when i set it to Linier PCM, the volume seems 8 to 10db higher then when i set it to Bitstream. DTS output set to bitstream, volume 20db DTS output set to linier PCM, volume 28,30db. When i press my display button on my PS3 remote, it says its playing a DTS track, and thats on Bitstream and Linier PCM. |

the ps3 will always tell you that it is playing the dts track if that's what it is playing. if you want the advanced audio codecs, it needs to be set to linear atm.

That just has to do with how the PS3 and your receiver handle volume levels for PCM output. Since the PS3 can't decode the DTS-MA track and is just using the core, I would use bitstream out and let your receiver decode the DTS core stream. If you have a good receiver, the quality should be improved, regardless of the audio level differences.

You should keep set to Linear PCM if you want the PS3 to decode the Dolby TrueHD, it will still decode the core DTS-HD MA track as usual. |

Correct. I was assuming the OP knew that, but was questioning which would be better for DTS tracks. I know I change my audio output back and forth depending on what track I'll be listening to. It's really not that hard.. and my receiver's processor does a better job with DTS than the PS3.

dont know if you know this, but if you hit triangle button and go to the "AV Settings", you can toggle between bitstream to Linear PCM while the movie is playing. Makes switching back and forth much easier. ![]() |

Nope, I meant to say "You should keep set to Linear PCM if you want the PS3 to decode the Dolby TrueHD" If you have it set to bitstream, then you will not hear Dolby TrueHD at all, just the core. And it will still decode the core DTS MA track...no matter if set to bitstream or Linear PCM, so Linear PCM is the best setting. |
