Agree. And why didn't he mention that LCD has far better brightness?
In dark rooms, I think that large screen Plasma sets are quite nice, particularly if they offer full 1080p (which many Plasma still don't). If the longevity problems of OLED are solved, I think both Plasma and LCD may be quickly be replaced. Sony demonstrated a 26" OLED several months ago, and people I talked to who saw it said it was the best video picture they've ever seen. Plus, OLED has at least the potential of being manufactured very cheaply. Still, it's impressive how far both LCD and Plasma have come in the last 12 months and what's been happening to prices. All good to me! |

I like both technologies, and this one reason is why I was initially scared of plasma's, however it is extremely over exaterated! Extremely!
Ecspecially with the newer model displays that have built in protection. I'm not saying that it can't happen, but it is about as likely nowadays as your crt burning in. Blu-Tiger left his display on pause for over 10 hours and had some "image retention" for awhile, but it eventually remedied itself with normal viewing. I think this debate is over, ecspecially with plasma models 2007 and newer! I don't discount LCD at all, they are still great displays, but I just get annoyed by the remarks of burn in with plasmas. 1st and 2nd gen displays, yes they probably had huge burn in problems, but like I said, you can compare a plasma with a crt in terms of burn in nowadays, if not found to be better! IMO. |

According to What Hi-Fi the Pioneer PDP-508XB "rewrites the rule book" when it comes to TVs.
For: Extraordinary picture quality, comprehensive specification and build quality. Against: Not cheap but worth every last penny of its premium price. Verdict: We only give five star ratings, but if ever a product deserved more, it be this. |

No one mentioned that plasmas reflect any light in the room like a mirror. Doesn't seem to bother some people, but I hate when I'm watching something and the lamp from the other side of the room can be seen on the screen. In fact the whole room is reflected on a plasma at times. LCDs reflect nothing.
Just as burn-in isn't an issue with new plasmas, I don't think that black level arguments are valid when your LCD is a Sony Bravia or Samsung from the last couple of years. Get right down to it both have their advantages and disadvantages. |

um...the post was nothing but image retention. (not to mention being a bonehad and leaving the set on for 10 hours.) |

Regardless, after 10 hours of the same image and it still didn't burn...I think that's saying something! |

Plasmas are great if you have a dark theatre room but LCDs are better for living rooms and dens. With the Black correction, live color, Wide color range and contrast enhancement features found on Bravia sets, I cannot see much of an advantage for Plasma. |

That said it would be hard to go wrong with any of the latest generation of LCDs or plasmas, it's a great time to be in the market for an HD set. |

I stated earlier that LCDs reflect nothing. True with my LCD, but come to think of it some of the XBR LCDs have glass over the front so they will reflect some. Mine is the kdl2500 w/o any glass on it.

First and foremost, almost everybody (99%) of the people on this forum know enough to make their own TV decision. So telling us the difference is pointless.
Second, burn in isn't that much of an issue. Plasma makers have had 9 years trying to fix that problem and for the most part, they have. Unless there is a plasma sitting next to an lcd, you were never know the difference. The XBR4's, Samsung's 71 series, both have unbelievable pictures. My Panasonic, the Kuro's, both are gorgeous sets. If I was a heavy gamer, I would have gotten an LCD. However, I am a big sports and movie fan. Those two activities are what my tv does 90% of the time. A lot of this is personal preference. Last edited by SS316SRV; 09-18-2007 at 12:23 AM. |

I like both, but only own 2 LCD's and would only buy LCD's. I have never had any issues with Sony and Samsung. I like the way Plasma's look; however, I know to many people that tend to have issues with them.

I need to chime in here..
There is A LOT of fud being spread around about Plasma burn in. I was one of those people way back when (2 years ago), however I spoke before I had one. We have two. We have left hem on for hours. No burn in. To date, no burn in anywhere. I have had image retention when we first got it, but now, none. Second, the glare everyone talks about. We have our plasma right over the fireplace with a window right next to it. During the day, no problems. At night with lights on, the only thing that glares is the black bezel around the plasma and barely at that. The screen itself does not and never has. I love Plasmas and how they look. However, I would prefer LCD because of two things - power consumption. This is big for me with all the global warming thing. I want to cut back on unnecessary/wasteful power use. Last thing is weight/heat. LCD's seem a little better with heat. However I don't think that is a big thing. The last major thing why I don't like LCD is dead pixels. I have had numerous problems with computer panels and I have heard horror stories about this as well. I don't want to deal with that, ever. |
