Hey guys,
New on the forum and looking for some help. I recently bought a Playstation 3 (the 80gb model) and a new Samsung LCDTV. While playing blu ray movies on my home theater, the dialogue gets very low. I also own a Harmon Kardan audio system I bought used. I play regular DVDs, audio is fine, speakers working great. Made sure I had the latest PS3 update, messed with the audio controls on the TV, but the voices still are low. I know that regular DVDs play fine on my home theater, so I think I am doing something wrong on the blu ray end. I love the picture, but the audio is frustrating. I've spent literally days trying to get this to work right, even adjusting the pitches on the TV. I don't think it's the TV really, as again the audio works fine with regular DVDs. It could be the old audio setup I have, but don't see how it wouldn't affect regular dvds. I also have the HDMI cable. Lastly, I am not an expert on the subject. I know a little about this, and did setup the system myself (easy), but the technical details I'm still getting used to. Any ideas? Hope I didn't post this in the wrong spot. Names Jake. |

I went through what sounds like the same thing when I got my ps3. First, make sure the ps3's dynamic range control is turned off. Also, check the volume setting on the actual ps3 itself (you can get there by hitting triangle during movie playback) and try bumping that up a notch (it goes up to plus 3). Also, perhaps tweak your receiver settings a bit and bump your center channel up some if necessary. I used to think my dvd's were louder than blu-rays too, until I found the sweet spot for my settings and now can easily hear the difference in overall sound volume between blu-ray and dvd.

Now the sound is loud! Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it. I adjusted the pitch on both the PS3 and my TV, turned off the dynamic thing, and did a few other small things. It seems to be working much better now.
Thanks again! ![]() |
