It looks like the each have their own hubs, and they are staggered and not stacked.
(Looks kinda of like the 4 disc sets where they each have their own hub. This is the first time ever seeing them attenpt 3 hubs (on each side) staggered)

Not a new design per se. We have had steelbooks with dual hubs on both sides.
But shingling it so you have 3 hubs on both sides is taking that design to the next level. I think there will be 3 shallow hubs on each side.
You threw me with the word "stacking" - which I usually ascribe to multiple discs stacked on one hub.

I doubt it. The site itself says that's just a rendering. It's very likely stacked.

Not to dwell on this....but the design is NOT stacked discs.
Stacked discs are when you put multiple discs directly ontop of the other on a single hub.
The design here is 3 hubs per side staggered. (The discs wil not be touching each other).

What are you basing that on? Just that picture labeled as artistic rendering? Do you have actual proof that that it's going to be staggered?

Yes, I'm going off the image they supplied.
No reason to not assume that is the inside of case.
We have already had cases exactly like that, except it was 2 per side rather than 3 per side.

They definitely won't be staggered. The size of the case basically makes that a physical impossibility. Lionsgate drafted the mock-up that way only to show that it will house six discs. If they didn't and showed 3 discs stacked to a hub like it will actually be, people would think it only had two 2 discs and just generate confusion. They absolutely will be stacked, just like the German 4K steelbook of the same movie, which was also six discs. That's how all 14mm G2 steelbooks hold releases with 5+ discs. There's actually no reason to think they won't be stacked.

Would be nice if they fixed the horrendous bitrate dips and compression from the original 4K release. However being StudioCanal they can never admit their mistakes...just lower the price enough so consumers don't complain about subpar PQ.

Got a shipping notice for this. Interesting thing is it looks like Gruv is handling the shipping of this for Lionsgate. Shipping label says Vantiva Speed out of Memphis.

Got my shipping notice too. I'm hoping that each side of the steel has two slots, and a flipper in the middle for a disc on each side.

Also, went to add this to my collection, and this release isn't in the database. Not sure how to ask to get it added.

I think Vantiva is just the distributor which Gruv happens to use, similar to Alliance for a lot of the other retailers. I also get shipments from Vantiva from PleaseRewind on eBay (i.e. the Sony storefront) and from Kino Lorber.

They should just make a fatter spine and have the same height and width/depth and have a flip tray in the middle like the 4 disc non stacked, but staggered both sides. Or make it fatter again and do two flip trays and no staggering on front and back, single disc. Fatter spines would only suck if you want to reuse a previous steel’s outside because the spine would be too thin.


Apocalypse Now messes things up for me because I like the old 3 disc BD SteelBook case with the poster art best and I dont want stacked discs to fit 6 in it. I haven’t hacked it yet but it’ll be the theatrical and redux in one case and the final cut all by itself in the case that has final cut even printed on it.

I got my Apocalypse Now/The Conversation order just now. They discs are stacked, discs 1-3 (both UHDs and the Final Cut Blu on the right, theatrical/Redux Blu, special features and Hearts of Darkness on the left.)

Can’t speak for the individual orders but my box with both titles was an orgy of bubble wrap and both arrived mint. And The Conversation is a beautiful set.
