and from what I've seen as mentioned in Box Office magazine - it will be in 3D to boot.

I am only interested if Samuel L Jackson plays Papa Smurf...

I like it.

I figure this movie will be in the same vein as the Chipmunk movies. Kids will love it, adults will be dragged to it.

I loved the movie. But then, I'm 180 degrees away from purism.

I rememeber the show when I was kid but one thing puzzled me, there was only one girl smurf(smurfette) and all those boy smurfs(like 99 of them)! Smurfette must have gotten a lot of action behind those mushrooms!

Yep...that's me...the guy with the modified-for-2007-Transformers-MOVIE-LOGO as his avatar. A fantastic movie, in all of its adapted-for-film glory.

So you see, it's perfectly appropriate for me to draw humor from the fact that you guys are getting your panties in a wad over them modernizing a 1980s cartoon.

I LIKE change. I EMBRACE it. I CRAVE it. While everyone around me cries about it.

It would be a bad idea to make a Smurfs movie as live action outside of the Smurfs world. Granted that the Smurfs are a children's cartoon but it works within its own world. This movie would be much better if made as a CG movie with voice over acting and the story is confined within the Smurf's village and surrounding area with Gargamel and Asrael the cat.

The Smurfs was good because it was just a simple minded thing. Again, this goes back to just sticking with the original source.

Spock to Kirk in ST:TWoK - "Anything else would be a waste of material".

Neil Patrick Harris has a TV-heavy resume. Now he's just landed the lead in Smurfs: The Movie for Sony. Harris won’t have to walk around as a blue-tinted Avatar, either. The Raja Gosnell-directed film is a mix of live action and animation, and Harris is the lead live action character. Filming begins in April, when he’ll be on hiatus from CBS' How I Met Your Mother.
