Well the local arthouse theater is getting this! Not the location close to us, sadly, but can't wait to see this in the theater! Our 31st anniversary is the week after this is released (wide) so we're probably going for that! On this anniversary we saw the Piano in the theater then went to his house and ate some cherry garcia and watched the Song Remains the Same (and some SNL and stuff about Tonya and Nancy)! Fun night! haha.

The film was freakin awesome! I always knew Jimmy Page was an excellent guitarist, but wow…wait till you see him in this. The film basically covers their years growing up, forming the band, and creating the first two albums. Highly recommended!!

I saw this today in IMAX twice. (I had to, it's just that good!) This is a terrific documentary about the formation of one of my favorite bands of all time. I reserved my seat once tickets were available back in December and waited patiently for today to arrive. I wasn't disappointed! From the opening notes of
[Show spoiler] "Good Times Bad Times"
I was in ecstasy! The sound was phenomenal and the picture was great, even with the copious amount of grainy footage which I don't mind one bit. I learned some surprising new things from watching this. There are lots of great insight from the band (why wouldn't there be?) and a few touching moments as well. It was great to see the other groups/singers that were a part of Led Zeppelin's story. Some that I never heard of before, and I do know quite a few obscure bands from the 60's. It's no spoiler to say that this film covers the band up to the release of Led Zeppelin II, which is probably my favorite Led Zeppelin album. I would love to see more films covering the rest of the band's history, even if it's a series on TV. If they ever do, I would prefer to see them all in an IMAX theatre!

There were about 34 people at the 4PM showing and about 117 at the 7PM showing according to the seating chart. I told one guy I liked the Led Zeppelin shirt he was wearing and he told me that 50 years ago today he saw the band in concert! So cool! I want to see it again this Sunday.

After seeing this, Stop Making Sense and Queen Rock Montreal I would love to see more documentary/concert films (in IMAX if possible) of other bands I enjoy, like Black Sabbath, Kiss, The Who, The Rolling Stones and Ramones, just to name a few.

This is a picture I took of the Becoming Led Zeppelin standee that was at my theatre. There's a QR code on the lower left that takes you to a website that sells exclusive photos of the band taken by Ron Raffaelli that are featured in the movie. I would like to buy some but the prices are way out of my budget.

My husband will love to hear this! Jimmy is one of his big influences, he's been playing for 35 years now, and this is the most excited I've seen him wanting to see a movie!

I first picked up a guitar at age 13, an imitation Les Paul with the same finish as JPs 59. Beck and Clapton, sure, great guitarists with legions of fans, but Page and Zep ruled the Earth in the early 70s. Have tickets for tonight, can’t wait.

can you post a link to the site? We don't have cell phones and I assume that won't be at our non-IMAX theater. Not that we can afford anything that's probably on there!!

Yeah my husband was 13/14, I can't remember his very first but the second was a 90's strat (that he just bought another one because he missed it so much, in the same color (Caribbean Mist)). He's still mad because he had the chance to buy a '54 les paul cheap but was about $1000 short for the deal and his parents wouldn't/couldn't help, today it's worth over $40-50k I think. He's never been a big les paul guy, he LOVES them but has never found one he meshed with. His latest wishlist/dream is one they're putting out soon, a sherwood green 66 reissue jazzmaster.

We're getting nervous because the local theater still isn't putting up showtimes, so we're still not 100% sure what's going on, we're worried it's one night only, which our area, while the local live music scene has basically died recently (one reason he left his last band and is now in another more low key one), it's a HUGE HUGE music area so we think the movie will be packed, probably with old-fart guitarists like him! haha

ETA: but over the next few months they also have documentaries of Ellen McIlwaine and one of the Smiths (one of his favorites books is Marr's Guitars). So I'll have to see if he'd be interested in those as well.

I'm looking forward to this. I love Zeppelin. My first rock concert, opening night MSG 1977. I've been to a thousand plus since. Still my favorite. I even have a soundboard mix from the show.

Was on the fence about seeing this theatrically since I normally only watch documentaries at home, but I'm a big Zeppelin fan so ended up going tonight using some AMC Stubs points to reduce the price. While there isn't any revelatory information here, there was a lot of footage and performances I hadn't seen or heard before, which was very cool. It's also nice that most of the guys are still around to tell their story themselves, which I'll always take rather than yet another cookie cutter music biopic.

The sound is what really makes it worth springing for the IMAX (especially if you've only got TV speakers at home like me). The music is so powerful I was blown away. At times I felt like I was there in the concert hall. I wouldn't have minded if this was an hour longer just to hear more songs.

So yeah, I surprisingly ended up enjoying this quite a bit. Even though it seems like the kind of thing I would cue up on Netflix, I didn't feel swindled paying theater price. I hope they make more installments covering the rest of the band's career.

(The biggest shock of the evening is that I wasn't the youngest person there, but that was only because someone brought their 10 year old grandson.)

I'm excited about the film. I saw Zeppelin in Boston in the early '70s, and the rest is history in terms of being a lifelong fan. Jimmy Page is one of the reasons I picked up the guitar and have been a blues-rock guitarist ever since.

There is an factual argument that could be made that Page is the greatest guitarist. He is my #1

It isn't just his playing, his arrangements and tones for each part are incredible. When the Stones or Clapton play the blues, you know it's the blues. Zeppelin's blues with the exception of Since I've Been Loving You (Page's soloing on that is incredible) don't sound like your average blues. They all had top level talent. They made songs their own.

JPJ doesn't get the credit he deserves. Most people don't even think about it. During live performances on some songs, while he's playing the piano or keyboard, he's playing bass with his feet. I saw him with Diamanda Galas, and I was up against the stage right in front of him. He feet playing the bass pedals was not simple. I couldn't even tap time to what he was playing on top of his incredible keyboard performance. I give him as much credit as Page.

I was watching a live Sabbath performance back from the early 70s. Iommi was doing a solo, and it was great. But, the overall live sound lacked because he was playing single notes. There isn't a moment of a Zeppelin performance where it doesn't sound overly full. It was only 3 musicians and a singer.

This June will be 48 years since I saw them. I saw Page/Plant, The Firm, The Jimmy Page Project since. The first Page Plant tour, with the 3 middle eastern orchestras. They'd end the show with Kashmir. That riff being performed by all of them reverberating off MSG's wall was the greatest thing I've ever heard. The only thing that comes close was Sinead O'Connor's held note during her live performance of Nothing Compares To You.

I hope they use this documentary to put out a book of the photos. We have a lot of really great photo books for guitar, bands, genres etc.(my husband is a musician and I'm a photographer) We probably have 3-4 Led Zeppelin ones, but I'd love to add another, although I'd prefer to see if they do more of these in the future because I'd rather them all be in one bigger book, especially if they'll add more photographers like Bob Gruen and Jim Marshall.

Becoming Led Zeppelin made it to the top 10 at the box-office despite being in less than 400 screens!
