The documentary is about the formation of the band and its early ascension in 1968 - 1969, its not a tabloid style documentary focusing on salacious stories about the band members. Sorry to disappoint you.

Yup. I'm so there. I'd still be happy stuck forever on a desert island with only the catalogs of Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and Led Zeppelin. My forever favorites.

Article from Louder Sound

https://www.loudersound.com/news/bec...n-release-date
Becoming Led Zeppelin, the long-awaited documentary first announced in 2019, finally has a release date. The film, which tells the story of Led Zeppelin’s early days, premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in 2021, but was subsequently re-titled and re-edited.

“The cinematic power of IMAX paired with the film’s authentic sound creates an immersive and transportive viewing experience letting audiences feel like they are there, in the venues with the band,” says director Bernard MacMahon.

"We spent five years flying back and forth across the Atlantic scouring attics and basements in pursuit of rare and unseen film footage, photographs and music recordings,” says writer/producer Allison McGourty. "Then we transferred each piece of media with custom techniques so that in IMAX, these 55-year-old clips and music would look and sound like they came out of the lab yesterday.”

“I had a mind-blowing experience seeing Led Zeppelin for the first time in August 1969 at the Texas International Pop Festival in Lewisville, Texas and it has stayed with me ever since,” says Sony Pictures co-president and co-founder Tom Bernard. "This legendary group merits a spectacular North American theatrical release of this incredible film!

I guess the Faustian bargain that Page/Plant made will be addressed? In all seriousness, I am stoked for this.

Are they going to tackle the plagiarism acusations?

I love Led Zeppelin still but i want them to tell the full story, not some sanitized version.

What a dead horse. There’s nothing left there to address to anyone’s satisfaction. Hopefully we get a celebration for real fans and leave the haters on the internet where they can keep rolling in it.

This documentary is only about how the band formed and its rise to fame and fortune during 1969 into 1970. You'll have to look elsewhere for anything salacious or controversial.

a friend of mine told me this once and I laughed so hard, "9 out of 10 musicians can't spell the world plagiarism"

Zep were notorious because they were caught so many times, still the stuff they didn't steal was great. If you took the stolen songs out of their catalog they would still have an incredible catalog.

The movie is more about the music, read the books if you want the dirt. I wouldn't want my documentary to go into all that sh!t. And yes, Zep did a lot of bad sh!t.

Since I lived in the Bay Area on that last American Tour I know all about Peter Grant and Bonham beating the sh!t out of a Graham employee.

I have never had a positive feeling since then about Peter Grant or John Bonham. John is exactly where he should be.

It was a really good film though and I hope it comes out on 4K.

The major problem is that they didn't give credit for some songs they took inspiration.

Other than that, nobody can't touch Led Zeppelin, the influences they took they transformed it in something unique like only great artists do.

Considering that mostly 60's and 70's rock bands were heavily influenced by blues, it's hard to name those who didn't "steal".

To be honest though I don't think they were really doing anything out of the ordinary quoting blues lyrics on tracks which were musically original(tracks like Whole Lotta Love, In My Time of Dying, When The Levee Break are musically totally different from the blues they quote), much more direct ripoffs of Blues tracks happened all the time before that point.

The two situations I think are dodgy are actually not blues lifts, Dazed and Confused and Black Mountainside. The former is pretty clearly Jake Holmes "I'm confused" with some changed lyrics which Page had covered with the Yardbirds although I think you could argue the instrumental middle is so much of the track(almost all of the very long live versions) Page would deserve co credit there. The latter is obviously Bert Janch's Black Waterside although that itself is a cover and arrangements are hard to copywrite.

That those both happen on the debut album as well I do think paints quite a different picture to the one we typically get of a massively successful band ripping people off, Page and Jones were established musicians but Led Zeppelin were newcomers and far from garneted success.
