Default What is all the hype about with 3-D?

Why are they even considering coming out with movies in 3-D, I mean what is this about them maybe working on 3D televisions, come on people why would I want waste more money that I don't even have to spend on useless nonsense like a 3D television when I already have a perfectly good television for watching movies.

i'm not a huge fan of 3-d myself, don't really know how this will work b/c i really hate the idea of having to wear a set of goofy-ass glasses to watch a movie.

unless the tv itself is able to display 3-d w/o glasses, i wouldn't necessarily be interested in it.

Then keep what you have and be happy. I for one am looking forward to what is tech can do, might be crap or it could take home entertainment in a new direction.

You do not have to waste money on anything, such is the joy of the situation.
Nobody forces you to do anything, you are not entitled to anything but if you want it you can get it.
3D is a great technology, it brings more to the experience (if done right) , more value to the movie consumer and is harder to pirate which is great for studios.

Get the surgery and have the lenses surgically grafted to your eyeballs, that way everything (including real life!) will be in 3D.

I've still yet to see a 3D movie, and am not really all that interested. I may see the re-release of Toy Story in 3D since I don't know if it is being re-released in 2d (doubt it) and was considering seeing Avatar in 3D just to see it in IMAX size. I'm perfectly happy with 2D myself.

I understand, however, why they are making such a push for 3D tech, a lot of people seem to like it and I guess the studio's and such want to take advantage of that interest.

Are you talking current 3D in home or Real 3D in the theatres?

Beowulf in 3D at the theatre was one of the best theatre experiences I have ever had.

Everyone that is still unsure of 3D needs to go see Avatar. And I don't get all these people *****ing and moaning about how they don't want to wear some glasses for 2 hours. I can't even begin to imagine what they would be like if they had to wear glasses for medical reasons.

Go see a movie that is not even out yet and that was only seen for about 14 minutes in 3D to a very small group of people?
I believe in 3D being a viable entertainment source but do not force the Avatar kool aid down people's throats.
I agree with you about the glasses, I personally never realize that they are on but the one problem I do have is that they need to be curved around the sides of your eyes/head.
I hate scanning left or right and see around the glasses.

Unfortunately, as has been in the past, intelligently-written scripts never seem to go with 3D. (One exception may be "Dial M for Murder" but that was based on a play and really had little in the way of 3D in it.)

3D has been a fad inthe past and it lasts a year or two but never catches on completely. I believe this will be the case now. We can enjoy it for what it is worth but I don't see it ever becoming the norm (or even anywhere close).

I know the red/blue glasses give a lot of people headaches from eye strain, my wife had this issue but when she put those glasses over her regular eye glasses it was no longer an issue. She has never had an problem with the clear glasses at the theatre though.

The only 3-D movie that did not give me a problem was the new Harry Potter, but that was only like 15mins long, so I can tolerate with that.

3-D in home is the worst, Not powerful enough system to handle 3-d. I prefer 3-d in theatres better.

I think most would agree with you there... These threads are talking about the future of 3D in home in a different way than what is currently done, which would be much more similar to the way theatres display 3D.

I do wear glasses for medical reasons and there's no way I'd want to wear glasses for a movie. I hate wearing glasses as it is. Enough with the money hungry gimmicks from studios. We have a medium in Blu Ray that's nearing perfection so why screw around with it (already). The studios are lucky people started moving to Blu Ray and that it's catching on because a lot of people are still very very happy with DVD. We home theater fanatics are the minority, not the majority. Most people I talk too are happy with their "normal size" tv's and DVD's.
