Smile PS3 Firmware 3.0 ? - Don't Believe the Hype

http://www.vg247.com/2009/06/26/ps3-...le-audio-more/

VG247 has learnt that PS3 Firmware 3.0, “a completely new system” for the console, is to release pre-Christmas with a raft of major feature updates.

The software upgrade has been described to us as “a huge overhaul”, and was compared to NXE “in some respects”.

The before-rumoured reputation system will be included. We were told that, “A reputation system in which users will be able to evaluate each other will be provided for… game applications.

“There will be a new API available to so the user can… allow users and also obtain users’ reputation.”

A “grief reporting system” will be included in the update, allowing gamers to take screens of offensive players and submit them to Sony. Apparently this is going to be similar to the LBP system, and is likely to include a text input.

Firmware 3.0 will allow patches will be downloaded in the background, meaning you’ll no longer have to sit staring at the screen while Random Shooter updates itself with a 500Mb fix.

There’s more. Simultaneous HDMI and digital optical outputting will be included in the release, a move likely to bring big smiles to the audio heads in the crowd.

We’ve been told a lot more on this, but you’ll just have to wait. Rest assured, 3.0 will be significant. Just remember where you heard it first.

Sounds good, just standing by until it's release and hoping it does what it describes.

Thank God. Now if only I didn't have to pop in the disc just to start the update. Would kick butt if it auto checked games in your trophy list or that you had save info for or something and prompted you asking if you wanted to download the newest update

I have no idea what this would enable exactly? Would it allow for lossless audio over HDMI and a lossy commentary over Optical? That is the only thing I can think of

This update had better include cross-game chat!!!!

I think it's pretty cool. The only problem is the lack of any in-movie XMB while playing a Blu-ray movie. Am I missing something, or what?

I highly doubt any significant change to the look of the XMB besides themes since they've been moving everything over to that format ever since the PSP...TVs, PS3...lots of things...

I really REALLY hope they give us a better privacy feature.

I want to be online and collect my trophies, but look like I'm offline so I can be left alone when I want to be.

There is this one 15-year-old kid on my friends list who sends me Burnout invites every two minutes while I'm playing other things.

My status reads "not available" and I get the first message:

"Burnout"

And I reply "Sorry man...I'm working on something."

2 minutes later:

"Burn"

So I either let it go, or if I'm in the mood, I'll ask:

"What are you working on...what do you need help with?"

He'll just say:

"I don't know...challenges and stuff"

Or if I keep playing, I'll get 20 "burn" messages followed by:

"WTF NOT COOL"

It's just annoying!!!

I don't wanna delete the kid, because when I actually DO play Burnout, he's cool and easy going and a pretty considerate player.

I just want to politely disappear sometimes.

I really don't like vg247 at all. Don't think they're reliable either. However, we know Sony has a web-based software platform on the way for Spring 2010, so maybe they're feeding off this.

I like the idea of dual audio. I won't have to keep switching between HDMI and optical.

Some people want audio going through optical instead of the hdmi, so video would go through hdmi, and audio would go through optical.

I thought the PS3 could already output video via HMDI and audio via optical

LOL cant you just block him?

All I want in a soon to come future update are some trophy upgrades:

1) I want to be able to delete any trophy lists I want. Whether its 0% or 100% I want the ability to delete that off my list if I want. This will allow OCD people to play even more games without fear of having low % games on their lists. It also allows people the ability to not have to play through a game they dont like because they dont want the low % on their list.

2) I want the ability to sort my trophies in the following manner:
-Two sections: Retail/PSN
and then after that:
-Alphabetically
-% complete(low to high, high to low)
-Date last played (already does this but only one way)

3) Trophy Leaderboard accessible through the XMB with automatic update as soon as you earn trophies. Might be asking a little much for the insta updates haha.

4) Ability to compare trophies with friends with only the games that both of you have played (an option not as the only way)

I think those things would make me pretty happy for awhile.

Oh...yeah..trust me...that never applies to you man.

You and Steph and everybody I met here seem to be emotionally stable enough to understand WANTING TO PLAY A GAME.

Oyyyyy.

@Ideasupra....Does blocking someone kick them off your list???

Like I said, I don't want to get rid of the kid...he's a nice kid. He just doesn't know when to stop.

I'm an OCD trophy person. I have two PSN accounts, my main one which I only play games I know I'll 100% and then the other one that plays everything else. /cry

I emailed Sony like 2 days asking if they could delete trophies...lol

All my games on my main PSN are 100% except for Killzone 2. I can't beat the last two checkpoints on Elite. and I haven't had the courage to go back to it since March. Damn you 83% Killzone 2!!!!!!!!
