I just won an eBay auction on eBay Australia for the 20th century fox version. Problem is the seller wants $27 to ship to US... Anyone Aussies interested in helping me out? I could have him ship to you instead, if you can find a reasonable rate to ship to me. I'd be inclined to do a trade for the favor

In terms of how they look at least, those are by far the definitive discs released so far, in my opinion. Those covers are not cluttered with insets and banners and background patterns, like later issues... just simple, excellent original artwork and colours. The Blu-ray 2-pack copies look appalling by comparison. And I may be alone, but I really prefer owning movies in separate cases anyway - and avoid multi-packs like the plague.
I've got the first pictured above, the Australian cut of Crocodile Dundee. I know people say that despite the huge benefit of extended scenes in this version, the quality of this DVD was relatively low. But everything is relative. We live in a 4K age, but I grew up on dusty theatre screenings and VHS tapes. And it's sure better than those. I'll always buy better quality if it's available for my favourite movies, but I'm easy going about lesser quality - it's the film's actual contents that matter more to me. I'd much rather own an original cut on DVD, than an edited cut on Blu-ray. No matter what the quality difference is. I'm now looking for the Crocodile Dundee II DVD, as pictured above also. Anyone have comments on the quality of that one? And do we know for sure if it had 1 second cut from it? (a gun shot?), or was it the uncut version? ![]() |
