Default Crocodile Dundee (1986) Australian R4 DVD

Does anyone own the Australian R4 DVD (Paramount) of Crocodile Dundee?. I would like to know if this edition has the Australian cut of the film.

Many thanks

I used to own this disc awhile back, recently gave it away to my dad. It is indeed the Australian cut of the film.

Thank you. The one mentioned on the DVD Compare website is the 20th Century Fox release which is no longer available.

Was yours the 1st release by 20th Century Fox or the later one by Paramount?

Positive the one I had was the Paramount DVD, it had that "Widescreen Collection" Banner across the top of the front cover. From memory the banner was blue? Maybe? Don't quote me on that...lol

Definitely the Australian cut of the film, all the slang terms are present, Billabong=Lake etc. And it has the full uncut line when Dundee is talking to the pimps in New York. One use of the F word as opposed to the word screw which was used in the international version.

That's rather odd, as only Fox own the rights to the original, longer Australian cut of Crocodile Dundee, issuing on DVD for the 20th anniversary in either a double-pack with the second movie, or standalone (see pic below). The international (or fairy-tale) edition distributed by Paramount.

For those unfamiliar with the differing copies, the "Australian Version" is about 8 minutes longer, and has a more cynical tone - the pimp says the second "F" word, a drunken Mick stumbles out of Walkabout Creek pub and passes out in the back of a waiting truck, Never Never Safaris' offices are revealed to he an old iron shed, etc. It's much clearer that both the outback safari and legend of Mick Dundee are scams for the tourists, with everyone in the area being in on the operation. There is a rather questionable running gag that the locals are expecting Mick to have had sex with Sue whilst out there, and only the tail-end of this makes it into the international cut ("You got wind or something, Wal?")

An extra bit at the start of the restaurant scene establishes that Richard had been drinking at the bar long before Sue and Mick turn up, explaining his bad mood and desire to score points. The line "Stone the bl**dy crows" heard on the trailer is in this version, being Micks' reaction to looking out from the top of the Empire State Building.

This disc was released back in 2006, and is VERY hard to find. I bought this off of a person selling it in Australia, and it was only after she posted it that I told her why I wanted it - cue rather annoyed seller that she had sold off something rare for not that much money. With so many copies of the International version flooding DVD down-under, the chances of getting hold of the longer version are pretty small, and costly. The print is barely acceptable even at the time it came out on DVD, let alone in the HD age, the quality of the disc generally dreadful, with a really dark image, and sound which clearly had something go wrong during the mastering, compressing the 2.0 stereo track into mono and losing a lot of the frequencies with it.

Still, the extra material really makes the movie, and comes as a real surprise to those used to the "fairy-tale" edition made for wider acceptance.

I must have gotten confused with something else. The blue Paramount banner seemed to stick in my brain for some reason, not sure why.

The one you have pictured above is definitely the one I had, original poster art, or close to it. I almost regret parting with it, but my dad couldn't find a copy for himself so I gave it to him about five years ago. He has been a fan of Paul Hogan since his early TV days.

I have yet to replace it in my collection.

Apologies to the OP for any mix up or confusion, my bad!

Thank you for the info. Do you think the 1 & 2 set by 20th Century fox has the Australian cut?

1) No problem! With the Paramount release being so prominent, confusion is almost expected.

2) Copies occasionally turn up on the Oz Ebay, but that's once in a blue moon, and most of them have realised what they are selling, and charge more.

3) I grew up on Hoges' TV stuff, but this was from the early 80s screenings here in the UK.

4) I still feel bloody old anyway...

My brother imported the double-pack for the Australian cut of the original movie. There are a number of twin-packs out there, but only the 20th Anniversary edition has what you are looking for.

The artwork is attached below:

I must have this... How can I?

Are the 2 releases pictured above the only versions with the alternate cut? What about VHS releases?

I live in the US and used to watch these two movies all of the time when I was a kid. Never knew there was a different cut...

I used to have the original Australian VHS release, which was the longer version, but pan & scan. I am pretty sure that this and the two DVD editions are the only way to see it.

Wow. I'd always known there were two cuts and knew about the language edits but the rest is all new to me. Thanks for the details.

Having grown up with the US release, that version is so ingrained in my memory after thirty years now that it would probably be strange to watch the Australian cut but I'd still like to see it some time just out of curiosity.
