Default Ripping movies/shows

So I bought a 4k burner so I could rip my collection and store it on an external hardrive. However none of my discs not even DVD will read on it. Including the blu ray set up disc. Is it defective or is my windows media not capable of reading movies? Do i need a specific ripping ap? it will rip audio cds so not sure what the issue is. Thanks in advance for help.

It's against the rules to discuss this here.

I use MakeMKV for ripping and Handbrake for compressing movie files. Not sure why this would be against the rules since it's a personal digital backup.

It's not open for discussion. There are plenty of other forums where the subject matter can be openly discussed. Well, unless you want to be banned from the forums here for 30 days. Been there, done that and all I did was disclose what Blu-ray authoring tools I use when asked, none of which remove copyright protections from retail Blu-ray discs.

You can't just use any 4K burner to rip those discs. You'll need to get something like an LG WH16NS40 and install modified firmware to allow ripping blu-ray and 4K discs. Then use MakeMKV to rip the discs. I wouldn't suggest compressing the files, storage space is way too cheap to bother with compression. But if you did decide to compress, don't use Handbrake, use FFmpeg.

Also, you're better off getting on the MakeMKV forums and looking for help there. The knowledge level on this forum is limited to discussing release dates and order tracking. The squares here don't know anything about technical shit like this.

I would suggest head over to avsforum --> Networking, Media Servers section. There are whole threads detailing step by step process. Good Luck.
