Hi Guys,
Just purchaed a Panasonic TX-P42V10 and was thrilled how simple the setup was. I was amazed that it controlled by Onkyo 605 volume and power controls out of the box. Did some research and learned about this Consumer Electronics Control feature which comes with HDMI. I like the fact that if i turn of TV, the AV reciever turns off too. Now I would like this to work with my Blu-Ray player too. I want to be able to switch on blu-ray player and for my onkyo to switch over to right hdmi channel. My current setup is Panasonic V10 TV, Onkyo 605 AV reciever, PS3 blu-ray player, SKY HD box. I think a lot of players would work but i cant seem to get PS3 to co-operate at all. Anyone suggest which player to go for? Thanks, CP_MAX |

You'd need a player with CEC (Consumer Electronic Control.) Different manufacturers may use different names. Sony calls it Bravia Link. Panasonic calls it Viera Link.
Of course you could always get a universal remote. Harmony has some entry level remotes for about $50 that you can program to control pretty much everything, from all your gear to even your room lighting. Last edited by Uniquely; 09-16-2009 at 09:11 PM. |

The PS3 had a very early implementation of HDMI v1.3 (the original transmitter chip, to be exact), and I don't think it supports CEC. The PS3 Slim may differ in that regard, since they changed HDMI chips. Most newer Blu-ray players offer it, although as robinandtami points out many companies elect to put their own proprietary names on it. My OPPO Digital BDP-83 supports it, and includes options for selecting how much control it offers (none, basic, or full). With full CEC, it will turn the TV and receiver on or off and change inputs on both devices.

Thanks for your feedback guys.
I have old style PS3 so i dont think it gonna work. To that end, what would you recommend for me? A new PS3 or a Panasonic DMP-BD60 maybe? I like the PS3 i have at the moment, but i find it fiddly with bitstream with regards to some stuff. I am looking for a more simpler solution but if it isnt as good as PS3 quality then ill stick with it and buy a new PS3 for the CEC stuff, otherwise I would like a player that can bitstream all available formats to my AV reciever. Somehow i feel more comfortable with that. I also want it to work with CEC if im forking out. If you guys know a working player let me know. Cheers, ![]() |

New PS3 slim supports CEC as well as bitstreaming of loss less codecs. So it is a good candidate amongst other new players. |
