Given current gender politics, Desperate Living might have found itself to be an unexpected hot-potato. Mole McHenry's rejected "operation" might cause a lot of problems on social media, and Criterion might not want to take the heat. If the Life of Brian stage adaptation almost hit the skids though the line: "You can't have babies", then anything's possible.
It's an odd situation, as Desperate Living had the best reviews out of all of Waters' films up 'til that point, and there are many whom still view it as his masterpiece. It validated Waters' career for numerous critics, and it's a shame that there's no sign of it. If they're waiting for a 50th anniversary release, there's a good chance that Waters might not be here to see it. |

I don’t think nearly as many people care nearly as much about gender stuff as some would believe. Who owns the rights to Desperate Living anyway?
I have to assume Pecker is coming from someone at some point. Did I dream this, or did someone list it as a Warner Bros property that Vinegar Syndrome might take an interest in? It’s my number one most wanted John Waters flick. Can’t believe it’s taking so long to materialize on BD. |
