Absolutely one of my favorite films. One of my earliest and most watched DVDs. I will treasure a blu-ray edition. I hope they get it right the first time.

This movie deserves much more attention and acclaim than it has had.

Really, really great science fiction. Actually one of the best. The only thing I dislike about it is having real people in parts that date the movie. It is almost like the director had no idea that this story would be just as relevant 50 years from now as today.

Just watched this movie a couple of days ago on DVD. Great movie. Looking forward to the Blu-ray!

excellent news, great movie, it is slow but a very interesting take in this genre. Day one buy, definitely.

One of the best science fiction movies. I liked it because it is close to real life and dealt with human emotions yet it is a great science fiction.

Probably my favorite Jodie Foster movie and just a great movie overall. Definitely picking this one up.

I can't wait either. Haven't bought much i the last 6 weeks and we have another few weeks before that comes out.

But my shopping list from Contact through Thanksgiving is long!!

I remember being blown away watching the DVD. I hope they do the PQ justice cuz I want to be blown away again watching it on blu-ray.

Thanks. It is a blur but I do think now I remember after checking the link you provided even though more info hasn't been supplied since then as to specs, etc by HDD.

Thanks for the heads up OP. Contact is a fantastic movie, even if they did water down Sagan's "message" a bit. Unfortunately I already own the DVD. It seems many of my Blu-ray purchases are just replacing DVDs I already own. That's what I get for being a film snob.

I also own the SD DVD. Like any catalog, I'm renting before I do anything. I don't know why but I'll try to remain cautiously optimistic cause I don't have a good feeling about this upcoming BD. I'd like to see some finalized specs though that isn't necessarily gospel one way or the other but better than nothing I suppose. Initially it was proposed as being "1080p VC-1 video accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack".

Amazon has the back cover up and it says Dolby TrueHD. I don't know why you would expect it to be anything other than VC-1 since that's pretty much all WB has used since the very first few titles.

Yes, a BD release of Contact was announced fairly recently, but that's okay it it got reposted. It's one of the most well-done sci-fi movies made, a film encompassing one of the late Carl Sagan's visions, and one of my personal all-time favorite movies all together. I watch the DVD of it a few times a year, and it will be a welcomed Blu-ray - one of the most important titles.
