Because people keep buying Final Cut releases.

Sorry for being brutal, but the only way to stop this is enough people stop buying their discs. They’ve always been a terrible label. They’ve no interest in improving, unlike other labels like Shameless who’ve surprised everyone recently

I wouldn't even know a final cut title. Never heard of them until this thread.

I am pleased I do not have to buy another Stargate.

So assuming their new Thinner Blu-ray wont have the 2k restoration or any of the shout factory features then great. UK gets the shaft once again.

Final Cut needs to get with the times. All their releases come after some other restoration has happened like their Killer Klowns release. Licence the restorations and features.

But remember that shameless was literally as bad as this if not worse up until very recently with their Four Flies 4k. So all these companies need is a little wake up call but I wish they'd do it SOONER rather than later and yh I am pretty baffled how Final Cut keeps getting these. Earthquake is another one that they released after a 2k restoration and they just used the old master.

They're seriously tragic.

Final Cut get titles like this because no one else in U.K. wants them. They also go for lowest cost so old masters and few if any extras.

With Earthquake both Arrow and Fabulous could have gone for it as they’ve had recent deals with Universal but obviously neither was interested.

I’m amazed that Arrow would pass on this but go for Lost in Space.

I like and have their Lost in Space - it arrived yesterday - but you’d think Stargate would be one to go for if you’re releasing 1990s sci-fi.

Didn’t Arrow get Lost in Space is both U.K. and US as with most of their Warner titles.

Earthquake is Universal and they’d already licenced to Shout for the CE with the TV version and they did the UHD themselves. Universal may have only offered the BD here so Arrow said no as not worth their time. The UHD will probably eventually appear from Universal in Germany and possibly here. They did same with Waterworld were they did the UHD themselves.

Yep, hard to imagine Arrow were offered this, let alone 'passed' on it to go for Lost in Space. Completely different studios.

Didn't Studio Canal have it at one point? I'm surprised they didn't hold onto it & do a proper 4K restoration.

If you check back in the thread I linked to the Studio Canal 2024 YouTube promo which detailed films they were restoring in 4K. That included Stargate, but over a year later no sign.

Given Final Cut wouldn’t have taken it on for less than a couple of years it implies SC have abandoned 4K plans or they’ve lost rights in the U.K.

The rights for Stargate have been a quagmire ever since Andy Vajna and Mario Kassar ran Carolco into the ground. And Renny Harlin takes some of the blame too, for essentially betting an entire studio on a vanity project for his missus.

Apart from anything else, you’d imagine that Lost In Space would be considerably easier for Arrow to licence.

Stargate may be owned by Amazon in the US if you believe what people have said around the forum, and Studio Canal controls the negative. Arrow would definitely do this movie, but Lionsgate has tried to do it before and it seems like Studio Canal never got the work started.

I checked the back cover of Final Cut copy in HMV today, and it says:

Quote:
Stargate (c) 1994 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. All Rights Reserved. Stargate is a Trademark of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc.
Package Design (c) 2025 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. All Rights Reserved.
Licensed from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc......
On previously Blu-rays it was copyright StudioCanal on the UK versions and Le Studio Canal+ on the US (Lionsgate) versions. Not a mention of StudioCanal this time. Maybe there was have been a 30 year agreement before ownership returned to MGM.

It also says it is directed by Roland Emmerichs

Did MGM one time buy out the film rights or as said reverted to them as they made all the TV versions.

This film deserves better than this. Why there is no 4K release by now is baffling.
Which one? The original '08, or later '10 UE release, which had improved (if a little dark) PQ?
