A friend of mine is a huge audiophile. He was telling me that I should get a servo subwoofer. He say's that a servo will give you MUSICALITY, and serious power, tightness, response, and controlled decay. Anyone using a servo sub? what are your thoughts? I'll be getting a new subwoofer soon and I want to know opinions of people using them now. Any help would be appreciated.

If you're talking about this beast from Paradigm (http://www.paradigm.com/en/reference...5-16.paradigm), I'd say go for it (I've heard it and it is outstanding), but I think the line has been discontinued and replaced by this other beast (http://www.paradigm.com/en/reference...5-17.paradigm). Lord knows what I would do for a pair of them.

Servo controll doesn't give you anything besides real-time distortion feedback. When the system senses distortion, it automatically backs off a little so that things stay nice and clean/clear. It does usually provide great musicality but it will not give you any extra power, tightness or response. The initial design and overall build quality contribute more to those factors in a subwoofer.
In the case of that beast of a Paradigm, the initial build quality is excellent so once you add servo controll, you get a sub that is capable of going nice and deep but keeping distortion to a minimum as well. As with most settings, it's probably something you'll want to demo. I don't think servo is a bad idea though, just depends on what you like. |

What is your budget for a sub? if you looking for something that is musical, I would recommend looking into REL subs. Plus, for another unique in the fact that you can connect them into the high-level input on the sub and the LFE at the same time.
