Not gonna lie, this is looking kinda rough. Not really digging the more scripted, action-heavy stuff they showed off and the performance looked terrible. I get that this is early footage, but if you want people to be impressed by a vertical slice then you really shouldn't be showing off gameplay that runs at like 17fps.

It looks like a fun game for 007. Note to his enemies. Stop marking explosive tanks and barrels with Red paint.
007 James Bond looks like he's in his 20s. Maybe this is when he was just starting out. Otherwise, nice scenic map and roads. Guessing this is a linear path game, which is expected. If this is developed by IO Interactive, they're really good at stealth action games with the Hitman series. |

Unfortunately the more I see of this game, I don't really think it's up to the level of polish I'd have expected from a studio like IO tbh. It looks if you showed it to me that Amazon outsourced to a newly formed studio trying to get it's big break with a well known IP.
I'm sure it will play fine and whatnot but not really better than a middle of the road kinda release in terms of reviews. |

As far as gameplay, I don't think it's possible to reinvent the wheel too many times for gun battles. There will always be the character taking cover as a smart option, firing at red barrels, enemies firing back. I'm not sure what new ways they can present that very old-school gameplay formula.
In that sense, a new coat of paint, but we've played this game already a thousand times for any gamer familiar with these types of games. But it can still be fun even if it's very familiar territory of gameplay for a 3rd person action game. I think the game looks really good overall and have interest if it's 59.99. 69.99, I'll gladly hold off and wait for it to hit 39.99. |

That's how I see games. Mechanics underpinning a game are one thing that a LOT of modern games all use in a similar way. FPS shooters, Racing games and Sport games in general. So the real way to differentiate a game is to focus on a great script of what the story is supposed to be when it comes to a game like this and visually presentable a unique and engaging art style for the world, characters etc. For me, this visual side is where I think it falls down and then also janky looking mechanics. |

That is probably true for many games. I remember when Driver 3 kept being accused as a GTA-Clone. But the idea of a person getting out of their vehicle and exploring was done long before Driver 2 even. Just different types of games. I am surprised they're going with a younger James Bond here, but probably appealing to players in their 20s to 30s. In the movies, he's always in his 40s to 50s I think. |

Movies need to be well made and have interesting characters for the most part, but games are interactive by their nature and need to go one step further with their mechanics. I think this James Bond looks too young for the bulk of the game. If this was his early years as a teen into his 20s then you time skipped to a more mature look, I wouldn't have minded it. He just looks like he lacks gravitas and charisma from the visual they gave him. It looks like Jeremy Bond cosplaying James Bond. |

After watching the gameplay trailer, the game looks a lot better than I thought it would be.
Coming from the old school Hitman games, I was worried about how the action would turn out, but it looks like they did a great job with it. The hand to hand stuff reminds me of Jason Bourne in a good way. However, I just don't think it's realistic for a scrawny Zoomer running around pushing grown men with full body armor around or - even in video game cinematic logic - running towards an enemy who's firing full auto on him on top of an air plane right before knocking him out. |

I haven't missed a James Bond movie in theaters since I was first able to go see them, starting with View to a Kill with Roger Moore at the movie theaters. Prior to that, I was only able to watch them on VHS or TV when they were on.
Even when the movies weren't great, I'm still a fan of the character in general. For this 20's version of James Bond, everyone has to start somewhere in their career. But good point that unless he's got the brute strength of a lighter guy like Bruce Lee, it seems difficult to believe a thinner built guy could be strong enough to deal with overpowered thugs. Which reminds me of Pattison as The Batman, who is capably beating up all the bad guys he faces without a problem most times. But looks can be deceiving as Bruce Lee proved. He had the strength to knock someone over with just using his finger from what I saw. He used to say something about using momentum against your stronger enemy. So if a strong enemy punches at him, he'd keep that momentum going to either push his enemy down in that direction, or counter it some other way. |

I should have stopped watching after he said "Backseat driver."
Climbs around like a monkey like in Uncharted because we've lost real platforming mechanics that might make players fail. I did not see him swap shoulders once, suggesting the camera will always stay cramped on one shoulder. Shoulder swapping (with crouch and prone) is better than this sticky cover system because it lets you take cover even when that cover is far away and doesn't immobilize you so and make you such a sitting duck. I would use the button they use for cover for anything else. Edit: In fact, I'm pretty sure there is no shoulder swapping because when he leaves cover moving leftward the cam swaps to the right shoulder again. Too much boring driving. In Everything or Nothing the driving before the action at least acquainted you with the level that you would flee or pursue in. Here those roads and streets were not backtracked through, which makes me wonder why they didn't simply make it a cutscene. I hate this shift in game design of telling almost the whole story through gameplay. Also too many high jumps with the car for my taste. You don't wanna rely on that too much in a game aiming for this kind of semi-realism because everybody knows how resilient suspension systems and tires really are. Too many red exploding objects. Way too many. Action is too wacky for Bond, far too over the top. Like watching that chase from Team America where everything explodes. Setpieces look even less organic than in Uncharted, like the part where he runs into the big white truck. Partly because it does these things with more camera switches than Uncharted. In Uncharted it's more how the animations connect the two parts of the chase that make it look bad, how awkwardly Nathan Drake is redirected, but here they don't even try doing it as one shot, which makes it look as if Bond should get splattered by the white truck. Sneaky Bond normally does not crouch-walk, **** off. Last edited by Warm Gun; Yesterday at 02:45 AM. |
