IO Interactive of the Hitman series. Perfect. I was thinking they would be great for making an open map James Bond game.

Sounds exciting, IO are a good choice for something like this. I’ll wait to find out more before getting excited, especially with stuff like the Avengers game getting completely warped beyond belief.

I'm a huge Bond fan, got all of the original Fleming novels and a complete collection of the Bond movies on BD, and i notice that this game is directly tied to the Bond film franchise rather than taking the position of being based on the actual literary property, which is a separate entity. Interesting...

I don't see how that's interesting. Has there been any Bond video game (aside from the likes of James Bond Jr on NES) that HASN'T been based on the movies in some fashion? The movies are what everyone thinks of when they think James Bond. They're the cultural zeitgeist of the property, even if they aren't the origin.

Why should we assume that Eon Productions own the complete literary rights to Bond, both Fleming and beyond? I'm not saying someone can make a film out of Sebastian Faulks work, or Raymond Benson, rather that a video game or other media project based purely on the books doesn't need to be tied in at all to the film franchise.

Are they still creating new 007 books/novels? That's cool. I never spot them in the book stores, new or used books. I'll have to take a closer look next time I go to a book store.

Other writers tasked with continuing the Fleming legacy were John Gardner and Raymond Benson, and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fleming's birth in 2008, renown author Sebastian Faulks wrote the novel 'Devil May Care' which became a bestseller. Other authors since have written further books.

Okay, that sounds cool. Thanks for the details. Are you going to see the new Bond film in theaters or home video?

I've seen every Bond film in theaters since I first was able to as a kid. Some classics, some not so much.

Been playing Hitman 2 recently. Stoked for Hitman 3. If any team could make a killer Bond game, it's IoI. Very excited to see what they come up with, and really hopeful it doesn't need to adhere to the film likenesses. Just do their own Bond look and story.

Bond is sometimes about stealth, but at this point, for the enemy not to recognize that he's a secret British Agent 007, after all of his famous battles, is hard to believe unless he's in disguise somehow.

Yet I'd be surprised if IO Interactive doesn't bring their talent for stealth into the new 007 game.

I'm guessing the new game will take place at several world locations, possibly in open map settings as in the Hitman series. I would also expect a car chase or the option to your vehicle.

An open world James Bond game could be cool if they could pull that off. Going around looking for clues to infiltrate the enemy base and defeat the evil mastermind.

A few new details on IO Interactive's Bond game

- this will be an all new digital Bond that is not inspired by a Bond actor
- original story that could be turned into a trilogy
- IO has 200 employees right now and expects that number to grow to over 400

These are from a Danish article that includes other details such as meeting with EON Productions (Barbara Broccoli didn't think previous Bond games were "worthy enough" and violent "for the sake of violence"; IOI's pitch though convinced her)

Nice. That sounds promising. Bond is a single player agent, so here's hoping it's a single player offline game. IO likes to add online elements to force online play in the latest hitman games, even though an offline option is there but with less features.

I have put literally hundreds of hours into Hitman. If this Bond game is anywhere near as fun I'm very excited.
