Hello.
I`m from Argentina and I`m travelling to the USA in December. I`m planning on buying a Plasma from Amazon and send it to a friend of mine who lives there. I`m between the Pioneer KRP500 or the Panasonic TCP50V10. One issue is that here in Argentina we have no expert in Pioneer/Panasonic Calibration for the Plasma so I will have to calibrate it with the calibration bluray. Considering this, please let me know what do you recommend. I don`t want to start a war between the people who likes pioneer and the ones who likes panasonic, only looking for advise. Thanks. |

The KRP500 is a better display, but the V10 is no slouch thats for sure. Your friend can get ControlCal and 'do' the ISF modes him self. Plus the 'PURE' mode setting is the best of any display out of the box , & with just easily made adjustments in the menu it can be even better of course.

Finally I will buy a new Plasma this week and have to choose between these two models.
I read that there are a lot of problems with the Pioneer beacuse of broken glass or dead pixels, has Panasonic the same problem? Considering that I have to bring the Plasma to Argentina, I´m thinking of going with the Panasonic to avoid the risk with the Pioneer. Any comments on this problems with the Pioneer? |

I can certainly understand your concern about the Pioneer, but it is no fault of the display or the technology. The 500M and 600M just aren't packaged properly. They have a tendancy to get damaged during the shipping process...more typically the left corners.
As for the dead/stuck pixels, the Pioneer doesn't suffer from this problem anymore than any other plasma. The 500M is the best plasma you can buy right now but that won't be the case after this holiday season...they will be long gone. If you were buying it from a local store in the US, where you could inspect it before purchasing, I would say go for the Pioneer. You could always add some extra padding to reduce the risk of damaging it in cargo. However, if you have to order it and then fly back with it, it may be more trouble than it's worth. Both models (V10 and 500M) are getting harder to find these days. The difference being the V10 will be in stock at most places after they catch up on the production of them. The demand is just too great right now. I had the chance to see the V10 in action and I must say, they are fine plasmas in their own rights. They are very close to the pq of the Pioneers and the differences are negligable to the untrained eye. You (or your friend)won't be disappointed either way. |
