The TC-P50G15 does have slim design, unlike the TC-P50G10 but it does not have the one-pane glass like the TC-P50V10. |

Does anybody have this model? I have found many configurations for the G10 but nothing yet on this new model. I bought it a week ago and have had trouble calibrating it or tweaking it. I have found THX setting to be too dark, vivid too bright. Standard is okay, but I am having difficult making peace with any set of settings.
Please help if you can? |

I would recommend watching it in THX through the first 100-200 hours. You want a darker setting during break in, as this is when the set is most sensitive to IR. After that, set it to torch mode if you want.
Also, the look changes after break in. Another reason to wait. There are solid-color images (a set of 20) that are available on avforums...people are using these to break their displays in. You can throw them on a SD card & run them overnight. This is what I did with my 800, and what I plan to do with my V10 when it gets here. Figure 8-10 hours a day added to normal viewing, should be fully broken in by two weeks. Some guys actually run them solid for a week or so. Go there & search for break-in DVD. You don't have to buy the DVD...you'll find a link to the zip file that contains the images. |

Forgot to mention - after that, maybe pick up the HD DVE calibration disc on blu-ray and run through it (if you don't want to spend $300-$400 for an ISF-certified tech to calibrate your set, which is preferred).
The disc is nice because it teaches you about all of your settings as you go, and shows you exactly what effect each one can have. Also, once you are done & have everything set to what it 'should' be, it's not such a big deal to try to tweak the settings further...if you bring it out too far, just run thru the disc again. |

I have read up on the break-in extensively and have actually used the "Color Break-in" disc. I have run it probably 12 hours a day for the past seven days. WHen I have watched actual programming I lifted the brightness and then dropped it during non-viewing hours and over-night. I just added the DVE to my Netflix que. I just keep going back and fourth with the contrast and brightness and the warm/cool settings and just can't decide what I like best. It is driving me nuts. I'm hoping to find someone who has the the same set who has had it calibrated already and is willing to share the results.
