Man, you just opened a can of worms. Westerns are probably my favorite genre, so you'll have to excuse the long list. My favorites include:
Tombstone
Unforgiven
Pale Rider
The Dollars Trilogy
The Assassination of Jesse James
Appaloosa
The Proposition
Django
Rio Bravo
The Searchers
The Cowboys
Big Jake
Lonesome Dove
3:10 To Yuma
Seraphim Falls
The Man From Snowy River
Sukiyaki Western Django
Two Mules for Sister Sara
Outlaw Josey Wales
High Plains Drifter
Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada
Death Rides a Horse
McClintock

Many others that I can't think of right now, haha.

I like a bunch, but to break them down by my favorite of what I see as sub-genres of westerns:

The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance (classic western)
The Wild Bunch (end of the western)
Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (contemporary western)
Lonesome Dove (TV miniseries western)
Back to the Future III (sci-fi/awesome western)

Get to it man. It's not your candy-coated hollywood western.

Deadwood was fun...except the "C" word was used just a litle too much for my taste. But it's sure not your "daddy's western" if you know what I mean!

You mean "c********r"? Yeah, they dropped that 'c'-bomb so many times that it just got silly. It's not as if the old west was devoid of foul language the writers could have used.

It is documented as having the highest usage of the F-word per minute of all movies and TV shows of all time.

The word "f!ck" was said 43 times in the first hour of the show[8]. It has also been reported that the series had a total count of 2980 "f!cks" and a cumulative average of 1.56 utterances of "f!ck" per minute of footage

It is a deliberate anachronism on the part of the creator with a twofold intent. As Milch has explained in several interviews and on the DVD commentary tracks, originally the characters were to use period slang and swear words. Such words, however, were based heavily on the era's deep religious roots and tended to be more blasphemous than scatological. Instead of being shockingly crude (in keeping with the tone of a frontier mining camp), the results sounded downright comical. As one commentator puts it "… if you put words like "goldarn" into the mouths of the characters on "Deadwood," they'd all wind up sounding like Yosemite Sam.".[7]

Instead, it was decided the show would use current profanity in order for the words to have the same impact on modern audiences as the blasphemous ones did back in the 1870s.

Are there any drinking games associated with the show and the cursing? I'd be surprised if there weren't.

Give the original 50's version (with Glenn Ford) a try -- it has a completely different ending.

Good film too -- not nearly as much action as the remake, but plenty of psychological tension. They kept a surprising amount of the orginal dialogue in the remake.

I love a good western! A few all-time favorites:

30's:
Stagecoach -- it made John Wayne a star, and it's truly great

40's:
Red River

50's:
High Noon
The Searchers -- my favorite and a GREAT Blu-ray!
Shane
3:10 To Yuma - the original

60's:
Liberty Valance
Rio Bravo
Shanandoah
True Grit
Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid
- maybe not a true western bit a fun film

70's:
The Cowboys
The Shootist

80's:
Dances With Wolves

90's:
The Unforgiven
Quick & The Dead
-- hey, it's Sam Raimi.

00's:
3:10 To Yuma - remake

I'm sure there are many others, but those are the first that come to mind.

I am not that big a fan of westerns, however TWO movies in my top ten all time favorites are:

- Once Upon a Time in the West (1968)
- The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)

The Searchers (1956) is also great.
