I don't believe that...
It won't be too long before they release a full box in one go.
They always do that, especially for such a franchise, if they're smart enough.
Sure that might be in years, say around 2012 or something, if the last film doesn't get delayed a lot.
But like I said, I'll wait until I've seen them all anyway.
I do have the DVDs, first I'll watch those and see if I want to see the last two at the cinema.

I just hope there will be box with just the plain movies in them, preferably with every version.
Usually I don't care if a release is supposedly a little "bulky",
it's just laughable seeing people complain about something like the UK "Godfather"-box.
I mean, these are 8 big ones, I could definitely live without any physical extras like BOOKS.
If that would be all these "Ultimate Editions" separate or into one box, it would be pretty huge.
They might better release an "Ultimate Box", if they need to, with like one book or something like that.
Just an idea... :P

What are the two features you mentioned last?
No wait, the two features before the last. Unless 'awesome' isn't a feature?...

# In-Movie Experience with Director Chris Columbus: an interactive viewer experience where the entire film is examined; includes PiP, storyboard comparisons, still galleries (BD exclusive)
# WB Maximum Movie Mode picture-in-picture programming, cast walk-ons, focus points, graphics and more (BD exclusive)

The maximum movie mode was the awesome feature that was on the watchman blu ray.

So glad we're getting SOMETHING like an audio commentary for these films finally.

And making it an 'In-Movie Experience' feature is even better.

But they have to go all out with the later movies adding extended scenes that was not on the other releases.

because if it is just the deleted scenes for excample OOTP(5). talking about the lame deleted scenes where Trewlawney is eating is put in then these releases will go down in history as the worst anticipated extended versions ever(also the delted scenes for nr. 3+4+6(only 6min deleted footage is mentioned for movie 6).

They have to have some new shoots that was not released as deleted scenes
for these movies. We know that particular OOTP original cut was 3 hours long(this was shot that i know of : McGonagal taking on Umbridge & 3 aurors or an longer cut of the battle at the MOM). I am sure the other movies had more aswell except movie 1+2 of course.

My guess is that the future releases will have more than simply the deleted scenes (with the exception of maybe Goblet of Fire which had enough deleted scenes to make up a worthy extended edition.) For example Prisoner of Azkaban had a deleted scene that would not make sense if re-inserted because it's the aftermath of a scene that wasn't included as either a deleted scene or in the film itself. There has been lots of other footage filmed not included on the previous releases in the deleted scenes section (like you said, OOTP was originally 3 hours long) so I'm sure they'll restore more footage for coherence and a longer film.

Unfortunately we won't know until either December or early next year.

A lot of people are talking about what could be extended about some of the later films. I just want to point out that with The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Disney did an "Extended Edition" that basically added a few minutes of establishing shots to the film, so perhaps it's not just deleted scenes that have been added, but new CG renderings of the world as well.

I don't think they'll have any re-releases of the hp movies after the ultimate editions or between now and deathly hallows because they can't just start a collection and not finish it! There will probably be a boxed set of all the ue's but they'll just be the same ones that came out seperately. They did the same thing with the Harry Potter books....

I think there will of course be all the Ultimate Editions, obviously.
Just maybe a box of all of them, but definitely a box of all regular editions.
Perhaps an additional new one if not just a whole new one next to the Ultimate Editions.

Which makes sense, since the final book will be split into 2 movies.

My guess is that they'll look slightly better however it was more in the way they were filmed. The reason the latter films look better is the cinematography/different filmaking that went along with the fresh directors.

Right, but some of us have been hoping for the two features to be combined into a single film for purposes of maintaining the magic number of seven.

I like the idea of them doing things in a way that allows for more material in the adaptation, that allows for a higher budget to tell the story, but I don't like the fact that there will be 8 films over the 7 year period. In this case, 8 !> 7.

Hm, they obviously release them split theatrically, because people don't want to spend 5-6 hours there.
Well, most people... I wouldn't really really mind terribly. lol

However, maybe they could release the last "two" as one on BD.
I think that would be pretty awesome if they'd create like one long cut or something.
If that would be kind of weird for people that want to watch each of the last two one at a time,
it could probably be done that you have an option to turn it on or off.
That one option is just watching both films in one go, as like "one film".
But the other (or the first) is that you have them separated
and they just branch (or whatever) the credits behind the first film and end it there.
Of course the same for the second next time you watch it.

Just an idea there.
I think it should be possible and it would be pretty original.
So you would just get like "Year 7 The Deathly Hallows", you know.

Buuut, seeing the nature of marketing, they will probably release "Part I" separately anyway,
for sales and promotion, besides that many people will want to buy it first anyway, etc.
Still, they could do it for either the "Ultimate Edition"
or just make a second "Ultimate Edition" containing both after "part II" is out.

Not to mention, the two parts will have different tones that will make them being combined into one film pretty impossible. The director has said as much in interviews since they started filming...

Combining them into one doesn't mean you'd get shots from each film at turns.
It's not like a recut or anything.
You'd first see the first and the second straight after that without interruption.
So I don't mean they should make a new cut, but just make a feature to play them AS one.
Like Afrobean said he wanted the films to be released as "Year 7", I suggest they do this.
Unless the two films run at the same time in the story, but I doubt it.
