Hi
1st post in this forum. Got a sony 350 Bdp player and a Panasonic AE2000 HD projector and can get images as large as 1.5 meters and bigger! Whilst CEOTTK is an excellent transfer i noticed some severe colour banding in the special effects laden scenes towards the end of the film The colour banding seems to occur most where the rimmed lights/flare lights surround the alien ships. And the banding in the very final scene as the mother ship lifts off is awful. The white light underneath the ship is really badly segmented. Now it could be because my set up is still wrong...but I have tried different colour modes and distances and it is still noticable.Just wondering if anyone -else noticed the same thing with their copies? I am still prepared to accept that it could still be because my set up is wrong LOL! Last edited by danny_boy; 09-27-2009 at 02:11 PM. |

I just popped the disc in to check. I am not seeing any banding. I'm skipping through and playing shots that have heavy lighting or lighting effects, so maybe I'm missing the specific shots where you're seeing them.
I do see, however, where the filmmakers attempted to blend the lighting effects from the effects shots into the live action where no source light actually existed. It's still not a color banding that I can see, it's more of a heavily feathered mask. ![]() |

Cheers for your help.
I am also checking earlier scenes-for instance when Neary is in his truck during his 1st encounter-funnily enough i don't see any banding in this scene-even though it is heaviliy lit. Have you checked the very final scene-the final shot in fact-when the mother ship lifts off from the ground-the white light underneath the ship is heavily banded. but could still be my set up nice avatar by the way! |

No problem at all.
![]() Okay, so I looked at the final scene as well as the final shot and, yes, I do see banding noticeably on the shot right after Barry says, "Goodbye" and the ship lifts off. I can see it slightly less on all the shots after that. So I don't think it's your setup. Unless it's my setup too. ![]() Thanks re: my avatar. Hope you'll still enjoy CE3K! |
