Default 2016 Olympics

We will find out today where the 2016 Olympics are going to be. The finalists are Chicago, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, and Madrid. Apparently Chicago was just eliminated in the first round of voting, and the smart money is on Rio. Chicago was thought to be the favorite.

Aww that sucks, Obama traveled to support Chicago for nothing then. What a waste.

It's down to Rio and Madrid. It's kind of interesting that half of all Chicago residents did not want the Olympics, as they feared higher taxes as well as the headaches that would go with all the construction.

Rio would be awesome. That city needs something to turn it around. Its scary how separate the classes are there.

They have the 2014 World Cup, which should help it's economy.

Going in I was hoping that Madrid wouldn't win it, so now I'm hoping that Rio de Jainero takes it.

The last thing IL needed was something to spend more money on. The state is broke and I cannot see chicago supporting part of the cost by itself like it said it would.

Thumbs up

Hooray no Chicago 2016 Olympics

What a nightmare that would be if it did happen. It's already too expensive around here. The Olympics would make it worse. Mayor ****by (Daley) would pass it on to us.. the taxpayers...we already pay sky high property taxes and 10.75% sales tax..

Also there is no room on the Lakefront. Congestion is bad enough as it is.

EDIT UMMMM ...Why is referring to the mayor from the Simpsons banned here lol

It would be nice if it was held in Chicago, but the weather at that time is like a roller coaster. VERY HOT, and then Cool..

It would be great for runners in the cool weather, but the swimming that's held outdoors not good. Either way it would be great.

We have O-zone alert days in summer constantly and the beaches are closed half the time because the lake has E coli in it...combine those two and you have wonderful air quality ...

Not sure where they had planned the Olympic swimming though. Most events are held in pools, iirc.
