Default OlympiCs Poor HD?

Hey Guys

For those of you with cox cable

Is it just me or are the olympic broadcasts in HD really poor quality? I have been watching them and the artifacts / compression are so crazy some events are almost unwatchable!!! Anyone else noticed this or is it just me?

very odd indeed. As i said, it's great looking here. Did someone in the house put it on in SD and you didn't notice (not likely....but it's a normal first question).

okie dokie. so a quicik fix to this issue was to force my scientific atlanta 8300hd to output in 720p instead of 1080i! Everything is looking fantastic even the olympics now! No more blocking or grain! woo hoo

Watching it here on the Seven Network here in Australia. 1080i at 14 megabit/s. Some sports look great while others not so good.

Looks pretty good here. I have Cox and I live in Edmond so not far from you. Have you tried all the olympic HD channels in the 800's they have now? Those all look good.

I get ALOT of macroblocking during motion scenes. I have Comcast cable in Baltimore. It's probably Comcast compressing the hell out of the signal. I'll have to hook up the antenna and see if I notice a difference with the over-the-air signal.

I have noticed the 75% if the broadcasts are really good. I write it off to the broadcasts originating in China. Overall, I get bored by some of the stuff that is shown. Men's Syncronized diving? Not much interest there.

The Olympics look great on DirecTV... I have not watched anything on Oxygen or MSNBC because they're not in HD, but the other 6 channels that are in HD look great... So far the only event I found annoying in terms of PQ was the Water Polo... So much water splashing around made for some serious pixelation...

Hey,

Does anyone know if the Beijing 2008 Olympics will be released on Blu-Ray after the event ends? (highlights or something similar?)

^ I hope so because I definetly want to watch men's rythmic gymnastics and equestrian on a blu-ray that would be priced at $150.
