ok, i have a 5.1 setup, i am getting sound from all of them
only thing is on the display of my pioneer receiver, the following are lit up: L, C, R, SL, SR, SBL, SBR, LFE (and SB is not) this is just confusing me because i have a subwoofer connected and run through the mcacc (and it works during movies), but the display isnt lit up meanwhile i dont have sbl and sbr speakers (because i only have a 5.1 setup) and those ARE lit up ![]() any help? or is this supposed to be like this? |

I'm not sure if the Pioneer 1018 has an on-TV GUI, but nonetheless, you probably need to go into your manual speaker setup and choose "NO" for Surround Back speakers.
The problem you may be having is that if you are running 6.1 or 7.1 channel audio from a selected BD or DVD title, or running one of the surround-back "matrix" audio modes on your receiver, your receiver is running its surround back amplifer channels without speakers attached, which can be harmful. Check to make sure that your subwoofer is set to "YES" in the manual speaker setup as well. Good luck! ![]() |

On Pioneers, if the receiver is getting the SBL and SBR signals, the lights will show up. It doesn't matter if you have those speakers connected or not. I have them turned off on my system, yet when I boot up my PS3, the display shows all 7 speakers are being input.
As for the SB, that means surround back. That's for a 6.1 signal. The sub input is the LFE or Low Frequency Effects channel. When there is input on the LFE channel, it will be surrounded by brackets like this: (((LFE))) Sounds like your system is fine, and everything is working as it should. |

so even though the source im playing isnt 7.1 (im playing nhl 10 now which is 5.1 and i was watching the dark knight which is also 5.1) all 7 lights will light up? i do get the brackets around the LFE when my sub kicks in also, do you know how i can make sure im not using one of those matrix surround options unknowingly? thanks |

*EDIT* You know what, I think it just hit me as to what's going on. Are you using a fat PS3? Because I'm using a slim PS3 that bitstreams to the receiver. So I'm not having the display show anything strange. But if you're using a fat PS3 that sends everything over as PCM, you need to turn off the 7.1 audio output on the PS3. Go into the Sound Settings/Audio Output Settings menu and select HDMI then manual, and turn off all the 7.1 options. Then the PS3 will stop sending out 7.1 signals, and you should be good to go. thanks Zman2k2...so i can check off anything under 100 and i should be ok?
is that what my speakers can handle? or is that just a general estimation to be on the safe side? does it make any difference? are blu-rays/games even encoded that high? ![]() |

thanks Zman2k2...will uncheck them when i turn on my ps3 again
also (a little off topic) but does your pioneer elite allow you to set a crossover of 60hz for your speakers? my pio only lets me choose 50hz or 80hz in your opinion, should i have the crossover at 80hz or 50hz? (i know a lot is based on what i hear and like, but its nice to get opinions too) thanks |

Nope, only 50, 80, 100, 150, and 200Hz. I have mine set to 80. My mains are spec'd to go down to 40, but I'd rather not push them like that. My sub is more than able to go to 100Hz, so I set it at 80. That way I don't overwork my mains by asking them to go too low, and my sub doesn't get too high.

im not sure about my sub though (as it is a lower model than yours). but im assuming your recommendation would still be an 80hz crossover for my speakers? |
