Default Anyone Else Dislike Cinemark Theaters?

Ok, the movie theaters in my town are owned by Cinemark and they've been here for many years, since I was little. There's one that shows new movies and a dollar theater. But since movies don't last long in theaters anymore since their transitions from theatrical to home entertainment release is like three months now, some movies only last a week in the theaters. It's like, "WTF, man!" Like, when a movie bombs it goes to the dollar theater. They've had the same 4 kids movies playing since August and they'll ditch everything that's more PG-13 and R rated films like a week after they get it at the dollar theater. So, it's like if you miss it the first week and then the second week at the dollar theater, you're S.O.L. and it's annoying as hell because I wanted to go watch The Goods and Extract and poof, there gone all ready.

Do they still run that incredibly annoying cartoon intro with that singing cat?

No, I haven't seen that in years. I remember seeing it all the time when I was kid.

That's my immediate association with Cinemark as well! I remember when I was a kid my mom would always say something about the stupid singing cat.

I wish we had a dollar theater . . .

In addition to not carrying films for odd, political reasons and giving money to political action groups (which I don't care which side it's on, is ridiculous). They also will not allow anyone under 17 to view an R rated film. I tried taking my niece to see Halloween (she was 15) and they refused to let her in, I talked to the manager and told him how ridiculous it was to overstep the boundaries set forth by the MPAA but he told me when they say "No one under 17 admitted, unless accompanied by parent or GUARDIAN" guardian meant "Legal Guardian" as in Foster Parent. These people are retarded and yes, to make a long story short, I hate them...

I like AMC but don't have any in my area so I go to Cinemark. Cinemark is a lot better than my local theater. Local theatre doesn't have stadium seating...Cinemark isn't bad except the price on food but that's how it is everywhere.

I don't seem to have too big of a beef with Cinemark, other than I think that the prices they charge is ridiculous-$10 for popcorn and soda-c'mon! They basically own all the theaters in the our city, but when they came in and built or bought out competition they totally rennovated and put comfy stadium style seating and digital sound. Recently they are offering on Sundays a $3 first run movie. The wife and I can go a see a movie for $6!! After the emotional day we had yesterday-it was nice to get out of the house and take the wife out and not break the bank.

All we have here is Regal and Carmike theaters. We were supose to have a Cobb theater here last year but it got delayed. Construction company that was building the shopping area went bankrupt. Maybe in the next 5 years.

Did Cinemark buy up any of the former Muvico theaters in your areas? Because they certainly did that here in South Florida. Especially one of the biggest theaters in Davie, FL which now has a pretty empty parking lot every time I drive by it on I-75. That's kind of sad, because I had a lot of good memories in that theater for that last 10+ years.
