I was just about to post it Here is the article from them for those that can't access the site from work:
Quote:
Responding to recent online reports suggesting a release date delay for 'Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer,' Fox Home Entertainment says all systems are go for the disc's Blu-ray bow next week.

The rumors first cropped up Tuesday when an independent retailer posted a message at blu-ray.com indicating an indeterminate delay for the highly anticipated release due to "manufacturing problems." That info quickly spread to AVSForums, and to our own forums area, where another indie retailer said he'd heard the same thing.

We contacted Fox for comment, and the official word from the studio is that there's no truth to the rumors, and that 'Silver Surfer' will release as planned next Tuesday, October 2nd.

First announced in late August, 'Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer' anchors the studio's a hits-heavy Q4 line-up, following a months-long hiatus. The disc is set to hit Blu-ray packed with extras, including two exclusive interactive games (powered by BD-Java).

As we've previously reported, last week Fox confirmed the postponement of two previously-announced catalog titles for Blu-ray -- 'Master & Commander' and 'The Amityville Horror.' ('Master' has since been rescheduled for February 5th.)

I think a lot of people could learn from what just happened with the Fantastic Four thread and how much of an impact this site actually has...

I think the biggest problem is that people don't stop and think logically about the contents and panic instead, and over a movie like this that's just eye candy at best.

Actually comic fans are generally fanatical about the characters they are fans of. FF has a long history (early 1960's) unlike alot of current action films. So there is bound to be some excitment.

I'm a comics nerd who enjoyed ROTSS a lot more than I thought I would (and a WHOLE lot more than I enjoyed the first one). It's honestly one of my more anticipated BDs coming out this year.

I was worried because a delay like this only fuels the FUD and can have an overall negative impact on "Blu-ray" as a whole (especially with the delay news from last week). This is great news. Now if we can only get pre-orders for "The Fly" and "From Hell" all would be good in the land of Blu (at least for another day ).

I'm a huge comic nerd, I still don't think either FF movie could be described as good. FF2 just sucked less. And the whole Galactus cloud thing was just ludicrous, all because some Fox exec has issues with giant people. I don't care about what alternate universe stuff they made up. Galactus is a big purple guy with a silly helmet and a planet sucking machine

I think it's pretty cool though that this site is noteworthy enough to start big rumors like that. We could use that to our advantage...

Hmmm....HD-DVD gives you cancer! You heard it here first!

Glad to hear FF won't be delayed. I was somewhat worried about it.

I heard it causes impotence.

Which explains all the hostility.

I've actually read that in another thread so it must be true.

The problem is, had it been any other studio, I (we?) would have basically shrugged and moved on. Instead, it's Fox, who has a history of doing this, exacerbated by the fact that
  • they had just delayed two other early Oct titles
  • quite a few retailers (incl Amazon) aren't letting us pre-order some Oct/Nov titles at all, even if they're a week or two from release
  • The whole announcement was a response to the larger news that Paramount was dropping Blu-ray
You should be mad at Fox for their SNAFUs, not other Blu-ray supporters who are pissed off for potentially being hoodwinked on what was arguably the best post-Paramount news.

Poltergeist and M&C were cancellations. This is merely a delay from his distributor

To parse it better, I'm going to assume that he works like a lot of smaller people and doesn't have the volume for a direct FOX or WEA contract. So he goes through a middleman

So let me translate to english

"Hey guys, I usually get my stuff from Fox a few weeks early, FF2 hasn't shown up on schedule and Fox advises me it'll be a little late, so it'll be later than usual getting it to you, a trend that is likely to continue for Fox Blu product"

And you're taking it way too far.

I really wish more people had been around (or remember better in some cases) what it was like in the early days of DVD as well. Stuff was constantly late/delayed. Hell Ed Wood was solicited 3 different times, one of which actually made it to some stores before it was yanked away again. It's a new format, it's easily 10x as complicated as DVD was, so instead of using terms like "hoodwinked", and always looking at it as a big global conspiracy, why not just calm down?
