Modern Warfare 2 = No dedicated servers? - Blu-ray Forum

I've heard that MW2 will not have dedicated servers... Does anyone know if this will only be for the PC version, or does it apply to the PS3 version too?

I believe that is just for the PC version.

As others have said, IW's decision to use IW-net as a matchmaking service only affects PC's, as they were the only ones who had dedicated servers.

IW's decision was to more or less make the PC experience more like that of PS3 and 360 users (well that or to be able to charge for DLC).

There are no dedicated servers for consoles. And no dedicated servers for the PC is really lame.

It's a server that specifically hosts a game server. For example if you were playing Uncharted 2 on the PS3 and were playing a game of MP it would choose the person with the best internet connection to host the game. That's why consoles are limited on the amount of people you can have in the server. While a dedicated server has a lot more power and can host a lot more people. Also with dedicated servers the owner can set their own server rules and run mods of games. With dedicated servers you have more people in a game and the ping is a lot lower so less lag. Personally I think IW are jackasses for doing this. They just can't stop spitting in the face of PC users.

yeah the lag is so effing annoying in the new COD's. Id be extremely mad if i was a PC gamer. i love being half a second behind half the people in the game

This might be reason enough to change my pre-order from PC to PS3 - online gameplay with mouse precision was what I was hoping to accomplish - now with servers non-dedicated I'm starting to think PC might not be the best way to go...

Time to face the music... PC gaming is slowly dying. Too much money and effort required to keep your PC up to date with the newest games.

This coming from a person who has played PC gaming for over 15 years. I stopped when I purchased my PS3 and haven't looked back since.

I just can't get the precision with the controller as I can with a mouse...I use my mouse a LOT more on a day to day basis that I do a game controller and I don't have the time or desire to game more than I do just to gain accuracy.
