The experiences are extremely similar. It's a matter of controller preference.

I don't have an xbox, but I think the multiplayer server interface is probably more polished than the ps3 network and similar to what you would get playing on a PC.

However, you DO have to pay for Xbox live and PS3 network IS free.

I'm sure others will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

Personally I prefer the Xbox 360 version. As mikejet pointed out, it's because I like the 360 controller better than the PS3 controller.

When I peaked playing time with gears1 I'd have paid $200 a year to play that in its prime.

I have the game for both consoles and prefer the 360 version better, mainly because of the controller.

Nope all 3 versions use the same matchmaking system. None are really better then the other in this case.

I prefer PS3 because I basically grew up on that controller style.

As somebody already stated yes Xbox Live you have to pay for but PSN is free. I really wont buy any online games for PS3 unless have too. Never have had good experience with PSN network, always problems, always updates. And when Live is only $50 dollars a year, its really not that bad.

PS3. $50 a year for online gaming isn't bad... unless you compare it to $0.

It's better for 360 if you are going to be playing multiplayer.

Live has party chats that you can use in some of the gametypes, which really cancels out everyone else in the lobby except for you're friends that you play with. To me that alone is worth the few bucks a month Live cost.

$50 a year > Free in this case. You get what you pay for.

It really comes down to controller preference. For First Person Shooters, I'm a fan of the 360 controller....and I don't care what anyone says, LIVE is better than PSN (And I own both consoles)....maybe because you actually pay for it, I don't know!

I hate the maps...I really do...I miss the dark maps from the first one. These maps are just too bright T.T

PS concentrates on merch, and xbox is more committed to a wide variety of game sellers, thats why their games are cheaper than ps3 ones, in most cases at least. Also, if you've got an HD tv, the PS3 graphics are ten times better. Overall, PS3 is better for having a nice and easy experience, xbox is more just hardcore gaming.
