Default projector screens, do i need1?

1st i'd like to say hello to everybody!! im new here so forgive me in advance for this possibly dumb question instead of buying a screen can i just use my wall as a screen? is there some special paint i can use for the screen area and if so how much of a difference will it be compared to a true projector screen? thanks in advance

Ive put a few pics up of my living room/HT area feel free to comment !! keep in mind its a SLOW wip

One of the forum members (Grevlin) went with a DIY screen using his wall and a black border. He used Sherwin Williams paint- Gray Screen in flat. It looks very nice. click for his gallery here. Good Luck!

thanks for the reply!! whats funny is i had saw this gallery yesterday but skipped pass the project build and looked at the end result

so no special paint needed just diff color for more "effect" or better pq?

im going to try and remember to take some pics of my current set-up tonight and post them for all to see...nothing special at all but i would like suggestions for the future and you guys prob need room dimensions layout ect..

My understanding is that as long as the wall is flat and with little to no imperfections, you can use any non-glossy white or grey paint. Here's an interesting link I found on this subject:

I did this and it works great and its easy and cheap! I made a 120" 2.35:1 ratio screen.
