If I had a choice between a 50" Kuro and a 58" Panasonic...I'll take the 58" Panasonic everyday.

The picture quality is still DAMN GOOD and you will not regret having that big ass screen...whereas if you have that 50" you'll foreverwonder what that picture would look like on a bigger tube.
And then he'd forever wonder what the picture would look like on Kuro......

Really? So you're saying you should have got the 65" V10 instead of your 600M?

Size can't always matter. There is something called personal preference and what the ladies call, "proper decor".

You mess with that and you're a dead man, unless she is into home theatre.

I'd contrast this...

The bigger it is the further back you gotta go. We have a small one, and my wife and I are happy..
With this...

...and take that as, "Get the biggest one you an afford".

I have two 60" amd one 70", and once I rob some armored cars, I'm going to get a 103".

You, sir, are a genius! If I wasn't married, I'd be laying tracks in my living room right now! That's an awesome idea.

Or better yet, get one of those new Sony KBR-10s. Since they are wireless, you could suspend it from two tracks on the ceiling and have the TV move instead.

Of course, it would be cheaper to just rip up the carpeting and get a chair with wheels. Sigh.

The whole issue with screen size and sitting distance, has to do with view angle, the large the better. My advise to you is go bigger and sit closer.

Read this pdf from THX, is a good backgrounder. If you need a view distance calculator use the one on the bottom of this link.

Cheers
Good link. 4.6 feet for me! Not going to happen!

What is your lighting situation? Are you using the room for any other purpose other than Movies/TV. Have you thought about front projection?

Not sure who you are asking, but I have panny 46pz800. Room is always dim, but it's an upstairs living room with a huge bay window which is always covered by thick dark curtains. the room is always dim to dark, but not flawlessly. Room is for movies and gaming and music listening, and some tv.

There is no way I will ever be able to even come close to getting the optimal distance as stated on that site for my 46 inch. Or even for a 50 inch. And can't make any more purchases for a while. I'm not allowed!
