Default Do NOT buy Belkin's HDMI switch!!!!!!

I just made one of the worst mistakes in my life tonight by purchasing Belkin's PureAV 3-port HDMI switch. I plugged everything in and not only did it not work, now everything I hooked up to it (my PS3, DVR and Oppo DVD player) is dead. I unplugged everything hoping to reset them somehow to no avail. So now I've got $1000 in dead equipment because of a damn HDMI switch. I don't know what to do.

I'm pretty sure an HDMI switcher wouldn't cause your equipment to malfunction.

Yep, did different setups for about 2 hours this afternoon. Nothing's working.

The switch is only a passthrough. There's really nothing involved with a switch that would cause a malfunction of your equipment. The only thing I could possibly think of is something grounding improperly and frying your stuff, but . . . I really doubt it. Give your stuff a whiff, see if you smell burnt electronics. If you don't know what that smells like, you will if they're fried.

Stupid question . . . did you move the equipment to a different plug/check your breakers?

I do think there was something weird electrical going on. Once I unplugged the power on the Belkin switch it stayed on until I unplugged the HDMI out cable. Now with the DVD player when I unplug it the red power status light stays on. It's like it's possessed or something.

The PS3 is outputting through RCA cables, but nothing on HDMI. I tried 3 different cables, through the switch, direct to the TV... nothing.

I've got everything plugged in through a Monster Cable surge protector. I tried with and without it, no changes.

Try using some other device with the outlet, something that was not used earlier like a blow dryer or a night light, anything really. if it does not work there but works in the bathroom, then it is probably a wiring or circuit breaker issue. Let me know.

The TV and audio receiver are plugged into the surge protector and are working fine. The PS3 and DVD player are receiving power, it's just that they're not outputting over HDMI.

The correct answer is:

Do not buy Belkin for anything. Their products are horrible. Very poor manufacturing quality, very poor QC. I've had several Belkin products, from UPS units to switches to ethernet cables, fail on me or arrive defective, and I refuse to ever buy any of their products ever again because of these experiences.

Hmmm . . . another stupid question, you did check the settings on both the PS3 and the Oppo to tell it to output in HDMI, yes?

This is my first and last experience with them. If a product can kill a thousand dollars of equipment in less than a minute it's a special kind of terrible.

Are they direct to the TV or are they going through the switch? Also could it be the HDMI port on the TV that is at fault?

Also, for the PS3, you may want to try the "reset to factory default" option. It'll (obviously) reset all of your settings, but at this point, does it really matter? I've had a couple of problems that I had to do this for.

Wow man that sucks. Does the switch come with some sort of guarantee like surge protectors? Maybe they'll replace your stuff for you if you can't get it working.

Ok, Forgive me I didn't read the whole thread, however,

Don't buy Belkins HDMI switch - Done, no problem. With Blu Ray my only source I have no use for a HDMI switch.

That said,.. Belkin gives me nightmares about Staples and Office Depot so you can count on my with this one.
