I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a Panny V10-50 inch, although LCD/LED is not out yet. My two main concerns:
1. heat generated(I have a 10ftx11ft room) 2. fan noise generated(again I have a small room, so fan noise may be that much easier to hear, especially during low passages in a movie?) |

Great questions, Out of the two Panasonic plasma I own only the older one generates heat. Fan noise is never an issue as the only time I realize I have them is when I move the TV's for cleaning. The S1 is always cool to touch. So get off your butt and buy that V10 already

You can feel a small amount of heat if your face is 3" from the screen. You can probably hear the fans if your ear is 1/4" from them.
![]() Beyond that, no worries. Buy it. You'll have zero regrets. |

I have heating issues from other equipment I run, not from my Panny. I only really notice the heat is if I have to mess with something behind the TV. As far as fan noise, not an issue at all. I can barely hear it when there is no audio coming from the TV when I accidentally leave it on.

Depending on where you will have the TV, you should not have any heat issues. If it is on a stand or wall mounted, there should be virtually no heat or fan noise. However, if you put the TV in an enclosed cabinet, there may not be enough air flow so you will get heat and fan noise. The cabinet may also amplify any fan noise if there is any.

I can't speak to the Panasonic specifically, but I think these other comments are a little biased. My plasma does indeed produce quite a bit of heat (my room is kind of smallish like yours) and it does make noise. It's not loud enough that I'd hear it over normal tv watching, but it makes noise nonetheless.
Good luck with your purchase |

When I said my V10 doesn't produce heat that can be felt outside 3" from the screen, and was completely silent, I meant it. |

All plasmas put off some heat, but not enough for it to be a concern. Some panels make more noise than others ...like panel buzzing or fans running and they can vary amongst the exact same models. It's just the result of plasma technology. It's not like you have to crank the audio level to reference to overcome it. In most cases, it's barely noticable. I wouldn't say Samsungs are the only ones that run hot or are noisy....or any other brand for that matter.
My room is the exact same size as the OP and when running my Pioneer plasma for 3 days straight on a torching "Sport" mode (break-in), I noticed the living room was warmer than the rest of the house. So yes, they can put off some heat in certain circumstances. When walking by displays in a store, I can always tell when I pass by a plasma by the heat being emitted. Of course they are constantly running them in torch mode because of the bright lighting conditions and to attract buyers with overly saturated colors. In real living conditions, most people don't watch their TV for 24+ hours straight in vivid or a sport mode....which makes the heat issue a moot point. |

My Sylvania LCD puts out some heat. But I have to have my hand an inch from the screen or vent to feel it.
Just dont put the tv in a cabinet. Like an Xbox 360. They have to be well vented. Dont be fooled by the displays in the stores. None of the tv's are adjusted properly. |

My panny pz800 only makes a buzzing sound in vivid mode, and even then you can only hear it in a silent room.
In THX mode (which I use for everything other than video games), there is no noise and in my custom normal setting I use for gaming there is also no noise. I have never noticed heat in any mode, but I havn't exactly tried to notice it either. |
