There has been a change of availability date for this product. We now expect to start shipping no later than December 4th. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this change, but this is necessary to ensure that the product meets our highest performance expectations.

As a courtesy, Sony Style would like to offer you a $50 e-coupon good on a future Sony Style order. The e-coupon will be emailed to you approximately 30 days after your order has shipped. There will be one e-coupon per order.

We hope that you are still interested in this product. However, if you decide to cancel your order, you may do so by sending a response to this email or calling our toll-free Customer Care number at (877) 865-7669. If we do not hear from you before we ship the merchandise to you, we will assume that you have agreed to this new ship date.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for choosing Sony Style!

and my response

"Just last night I called your customer service center and was assured by your representative that you would still be receiving your shipment on October 25th, and that pre-ordered units would still be shipped. And that the new date of December 4th would only apply to new orders for this product. My reference # given to me for this conversation last night is *****.

At this point, I have no confidence in the integrity of your company or service center and you can cancel my order for the Sony Blu-ray player and keep your $50 e-coupon. I have instead just finished ordering the Philips Blu-ray player through Amazon and even if theirs does not ship until the end of December, I would not take your product on December 4th, November 14th, or even October 25th at this point."

Looks like I might have to wait and watch Corpse Bride and Sleepy Hollow on New Year's Eve since Amazon's preorder email said it is not expecting to ship my order until December 20th, 2006. But, for me, the principle is worth the extra wait of a couple of weeks. And the Philips looks like it is going to be a nice, quality player as well so that does not hurt.

I have 3 philips at my walmart... $898 and they got stuck on a pallet in the top bins so the chances them coming down within 2 weeks is slim to none... so im hoping for the dept mgr to clearance them and Ill step into the dark side and get a BD player.

This is taken from Format Wars Episode III:

Obi-Wan: Anakin, HD-DVD is evil!

Darth Vader: From my point of view, Blu-ray is evil!

Obi-Wan: Well then you are lost!

use the force luke, unlock your blu layser and put it to good use.
Vader: No luke join the darkside get HD DVD and open and close your player 20 time to get it to work.

Sorry, guess what I am on HD A1 #5. That is right folks, I bought one last (#4)weekend open box for $175 (stupid me couldn't turn down the deal). Paid $50 to get the protection plan, guess what still was to fussy took it back and they couldn't fix it. So they gave me #5 brand new in the box. Well this one is working so far, although I may have just jinxed it. Hey 20% isn't that bad.

Anyhow yes sony has delayed yet again I feel bad for all those who ordered to late. Sony should treat the people who pre-ordered better and get on the ball. This can be done with one simple step from sony, 1 Take head, then remove from *** and see your are loosing support because of bad conduct.

(I edited it for you NYG)

The BDP-S1 has been delayed because of a software problem.

Quote:
Sony's BDP-S1 Blu-ray disc player has been delayed from its October 25 launch date, according to a Sony spokesperson, because of a software problem inside the hardware of the unit.

"This is a specific software function that resides in the hardware," the spokesperson said, stating that the delay has nothing to do with production of the Blu-ray laser diode, which has plagued production of Sony's PlayStation 3 as well as Blu-ray products from other manufacturers. The problem is "specifically related to the functionality of the unit," the spokesperson said.

This is not the first delay for the unit. The BDP-S1 was originally expected to ship in June, but delayed until August and then again until October.
And now December.

Comedy of errors to say the least.

I'm almost wondering if December is for the second wave/second batch, since we all know folks have been preordering these things for a few months now.

Just a thought...

Below is a post I made here several days ago. Hopefully, you'll read it here:

Quote:

There are several of us here on the Forum that sell Sony products as part of our floorplanning and many here on the Forum are or get confused regarding the Sony BDP-S1 availability, their distribution, who gets them, and when.

Hopefully this will clear this up and emotions will subside, and return to enjoying this wonderful technology.

Yes, as we progressed through the spring and summer months of 2006, Sony and other Blu-Ray folks were addressing technical issue with their players as well as software issues, transferring, etc. and an announcement was made, delaying the introduction of BDP-S1 until mid-November. This allowed the the appropriate time to address and resolve the 1st generation issues in time for their distribution date of November 15th.

All us Dealers who have standing orders from this summer will receive 'first' allocated distribution (meaning we're first, but with limited quantity). THIS HAS NOT CHANGED !!! SonyStyle is an arm of Sony that can proviide consumer direct sales and coexists with Sony's network of dealers, whom Sony extends to its Dealers priority to and over SonyStyle.

Our allocation amount and distribution date has not been extended or delayed. In fact we (the dealers) may be in possession of the first of the players preceeding the November 15th date. Any discussion or rumor you've heard regarding a 'December' date is referring to the second wave of players coming into the country and in a volume to accomidate the Christmas buyers and broader availability through SonyStyle. Now through the end of this year all dealers are subject to allocated, limited distribution . . .period !!!

Concerning a 2nd generation player, one incorporating the HDMI 1.3 chip is now well along, and is targeted for introduction preceeding, or at the time of, CEDIA 2007 Expo in Denver, CO in September 2007. If all issues and concerns are resolved, the introduction of the BDP-S2 'might occur' as soon as the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, NV in January 2007.

I hope this was helpful. Bottom line here is: If you don't have one of these on 'back order' from this past summer months, you'll be waiting until the December allotment or allocation, even later if you waiting on the 2nd generation player.

Is this the same w/amazon.com as I have had a standing order for a while with them, but they still don't have a release date on their site. I think I pre-ordered in July when I cancelled my Samsung order. Can't remember when I cancelled the Samsung. I think it was then.
