While I agree that loading up movies with tons of extra discs is rather silly, it does make sense that the Blu-Ray version of most any film be "the definitive version." It should have the same content as the DVD and probably more, and people expect it.

If you're just interested in watching the film, with no interest in a DVD "backup" or a digital copy, and you don't care about tons of extras and such, you should probably not buy the movie. You should get it from Netflix, where you'll receive just the single disc and can watch the film. If you want to watch it again in a year, put it back in your Queue.

I only buy blu-ray copies of films I know I like, and because of that I'm happy getting a "definitive" version of the film. With DVD I felt like it was "better than VHS" and a convenient way to own a film. With Blu-Ray, I've felt that what I'm buying is pretty much the best home version available. For that reason, I'm happy spending the little extra and/or getting an extra disc or two that I may never watch.

Once Blu's are similarly priced to DVD's of today, you'll see an even BIGGER adoption rate. Until then, the industry is making money off of both Blu and DVD. And they're OK with that.
Really, I'm quite shocked people are outraged at prices lol dvds were 20-30 well into its 4-6th years. Yet now were getting new movies for 17.99-29.99

Its only been 3 years since movies have been coming out.

I'll end up paying $22.99 for Up - possibly the best movie of the year. I'll pay $18.99 for Monster's Inc. I paid $44 for the Wizard of Oz UCE.
I don't feel at all like I'm being ripped off.

Yeah I'm really surprised how quickly the price of BluRay movies have come down. And if you compare the price between the 2-Disc Special Edition DVDs vs the BluRay version the prices are basically the same sometimes the BluRay is even cheaper.

I also agree. The prices are reasonable, and there are many sales and coupons out there. We already know that collector editions will get a regular edition release at a future time. Just look @ Star Trek TOS Seasons 1-3 the DVD releases were selling @ $80 for years.

I'd complain about Disney's prices if places were charging around the SRP for them. But most places don't even charge near what their SRP is when it comes to the new releases. I bought The Proposal for $15 due to the $10 off coupon... So even without the movie would've been $25 which is pretty much the same as any other movie.

im glad everyone here can point out all the crazy deals on amazon and other online sites

but did you ever think a lot of people might not like to, or have the ability to order movies online?

a lot of us still like to stick to brick and morter stores, and in that case, most have the same prices

i dont mind paying for 3 disc sets if thats the only option, what i do hate are those stupid sets that have dumb trinkets or collectors cases

like casablanca and the wizard of oz

As much as I love UP, I just can't justify paying $30 for two more discs that I just don't ever plan to use. And that's just one example, but Disney really is the worst when it comes to milking the customer for every nickel on it's products.

Has anyone heard of any plans of the video industry to start selling single-disc Blu versions of new movies?
Just buy it for $20 at Wal-mart. You just have to look harder for deals on Blu than you did on DVD. Prices are phenomenal now.

Then go to Target and Wal-mart where they have the cheaper options without giftsets. They have the best prices typically and are usually the same price as amazon when you figure in shipping.

Neither do I. People just balk at the pricing, then when it comes time to buy the disc they realize it's actually much cheaper. $23 for a 4-disc Blu-ray set of Up? How is that too much.
Best Buy will have it for $26 or less. Laserdiscs used to cost up to $100, DVD's cost $30 at first release...I Have no problem paying up to $30 if the disc is done right and it includes a DVD copy. But then again, I only buy movies I've seen and really want, instead of buying everything on the shelf.

Yes, of course Disney wants your money. They're a for-profit company, they're not running a charity.

My advice is quit complaining and learn to shop smarter. If you're spending $30 on a blu-ray, you're spending far too much.
This man speaks the truth.

Disney is the worst at nickel and diming everyone to death because they know they can.

Another part of the problem is that studios aren't telling us about single disc releases like Walmart's Wizard Of Oz single disc exclusive or Target's 3 disc exclusive. Each store is now getting "exclusive" releases making it that much harder to know about the different sets out there. The competition for our money is fierce now and the retailers know it.

Never pay full price for a Blu-ray. If a store won't price match, don't shop there. Wait for sales and keep reading up on here to find out new information on prices and special deals going on. This site is a wealth of information and full of knowledgable people. I've spent more and saved more since joining.

Hope this helps

I've never had any problem with the price, but I do think extra discs are a waste. I don't think I've ever watched a special feature disc, and I doubt I'll ever use a digital copy. I have enough junk software on my pc.

The people that still buy new releases at FYE for 40$ care apparently.
