Default The backlighting experiments

i have been experimenting with backlighting my blu ray collection for the last week or so. the first attempts were bad. i tried using LED tap lights. they weren't very powerful, and so today i bought a different type of LED light. they're more powerful and in a bar as opposed to a round taplight. this is my first attempt at them. i will be getting another set of lights and messing with their placement as well as working to fix the light leaks so that just the blus are glowing. the lights are available it packs of 2 at costco for about $12.

(my photo of the lights wont load)

i love the eerie glow of the blu but once again this is my first attempt, i will post my other later until i get it right.

I 'd like to see a mood ring that stays a constant blu color.

maybe you can use the acentic lighting. you can get theses from any pet store that deals with salt water fish. your whole room will glow blue, they give off a lot of heat though and will set you back a 100+

I think it's pretty damn cool and a good idea. Especially for backlighting in a room and it also enhances the cabinet.

Good stuff.

Still upset about that comment of mine regarding the screen? I didn't think it would be so traumatic to you. Ahhhhhh......

You guys should check out the "dioder" LEDs from IKEA. You'll get 4 dioder sticks that can cycle thru several colors, and blue is definitely one of those colors. One of my friends has a set like that, and it looks awesome.

A shrine to blu... well have fun with that. A lot of work for a wow factor that can be accomplised with pq and aq. Like I said though, have fun with that.

i said i was joking. i guess you must hear that a lot though. come on i'm just messin with you. anyway. here is my second attempt. unfortunately i was using bent newspaper to keep the light behind the blu rays. and the purpose of this (yes it has a purpose) is so that i don't have to turn on the lights to see what movies i have and decide what to watch. nothing ruins movie night like "hold everyone, close your eyes for a second. OH MY GOD MY EYES THE LIGHT IT BURNS MY EYES" the clear cases mean you can read the names on the case sides when the light shines through.

here is the LED thingy.

and here is my second attempt.

it looks better in real person. stupid webcam. i have one last thing to try.

Buck,

Glad to see someone finally took my suggestion serious. Second attempt was much better. To really get the effect, one must back light the viewable blu portion as you did, or light the whole thing from underneath.

I bow to your blu-ness.
