stupid question but since you have to have a fat32 formatted hdd for a ps3 to recognize it... is it possible to put files on it from a normal windows pc or does it have to be from a fat32 computer

Are you asking if a "normal pc" being one that is using the ntfs filesystem, can write to a fat32 external drive...the answer is yes it can. I do not believe that you can map the drive in your ps3 and write to it with windows networking. Fat32 has an inherent 32GB limitation built into it but there are utilities out there that get around that, like this one.

Default Fat 32

Hello

Nice thing about FAT 32, is that you can freely open and edit, files from any Windows OS NTFS file system or Apple Mac OS HFS+ file systems, including any FAT 16 or FAT 32 file systems; and back, of course.

There is more to this, but essentially, FAT 32 is considered the most common to conveniently use of files from most other file systems, being the most universal and least restrictive.

Do not worry or concern yourself with regards to moving files to and from FAT 32.

Yes; it is not only possible to put files on it from a normal windows pc or does it have to be from a fat32 computer, or NTFS computer, but it is easiest of all options.

Thank You

is the file itself fat32 or ntfs? or just the system lol....if it has nothing to do with the file itself i guess that answers my question..because i was just making sure i could transfer files from my pc to an external hdd that would work with a ps3

Just the file system. It does not alter the files. Fat32 does have a 4 gig limit so you cant copy files larger than that.

Default File Names

Hello Again

It's already been answered that the files are independent of the file system.

For completeness, there are issues of file naming, tied to which characters are supported and the number of characters. I do not wish to go into unnecessary detail here, but there are such issues.

And; there is an issue of whether or not files can be only read or available for modification; essentially changed.

I hope that this is helpful.

Thank You
