Get rid of the Floorstanders and get a pair of high-quality monitors and stands for your front soundstage. This will eliminate the issue of the couch being in the way. If you don't want to do this, try placing your current speakers on some kind of raised platform (the size of a milk-crate for instance).

That is a darn good idea. Axiom makes some very nice bookshelf speakers. I was thinking of trying M22's anyway. If they don't work out I could use them for my computer.

THANKS!!!

I sit about 8 feet from the center speaker.

Notice the couch kind of blocks the lower drivers on the right speaker.

Attachment 8631

This is the main reason I originally positioned them next to the TV.
However, I feel as if I don't get good separation so I'm trying them further apart.

Opinions welcome (while I go watch Transformers 2).

John
you need to rearrange the room

what about putting the TV in a corner (caddy corner) and working the couches in from there?

I would say experiment, for the Energys that I have they say to have them 6-8 feet apart and then to be back 1.5 times the distance apart for proper imaging. Honestly when I get behind my couch and stand there I do get better imaging. For me, getting rid of the dedicated audio rack and the current TV stand may be the best sonic improvement I can make by getting a 3-n-1 TV stand and consolidating. Which is my plan at the momment.

I think it best that you move them around and see what works for you and your room acoustics.

If you do that, sell me your towers. You've got a beautiful setup outside of your placement issues. I would just try for something in the middle.

I have kind of the same issue but with my towers the drivers don't go as far down the speaker so if there is an issue, I sure can't detect it.

Thanks!

I'm going to play a bit more, but I do think I will try M22's. I've been wanting to get them and now I have an excuse

This weekend I may try moving the towers again and recalibrating. I have a few movies to watch (Up and Monster's Inc). These should give them a good workout.

In HT, however, fronts should be around 30 degrees to the listening area. That would result in a wider speaker placement up front. This would make sense since HT has the center channel which would fill in any void seen in a 2-channel setup. This is also why it is so hard to have a multi-use setup. Unless you physically move your speakers depending on what you plan on listening to, you may not be in the optimum position to enjoy the audio.
Good idea Lou,

I will move my fronts up a bit more to get the same distance from seat.

are all recievers that way or does it depend on manufacture? Granted I have an older Tecnics reciever, I set it up based on distance to reciever (which lowest is 3ft, but are actually on side by tv and center underneath). Maybe explains why I am not happy with it

They should be....

The idea is to get the sound arriving at your ears from all speakers at the same time. By inputting the distance from you to the speakers, the receiver can properly set the timing.

What is it about the sound you not happy with?

mostly just my setup in general, working with a 5yr old Technics reciever and Audiosource brand speakers, never heard of either, and would love to upgrade to HD audio but just dont have the money right now or the immediate future. Also and maybe its just the movies but some movies sound better than others, some I have trouble hearing talking while sounds effects blow out the windows. Then again might be me or the way its set up. I am only using 3 speakers, shut off the rears, the 2 front speakers are right next to tv on entertaiment stand and the center is underneath on 2nd shelf on top of our sony bdp-bx1 (like s350 or something, costco "exclusive" anyway)
