I believe MoretonBay had a great post in reference to this. This is important news. If we look at HD DVD's Q4 schedule, the amount of releases pales in comparison to blu-ray. HD DVD closed the year with Time Cop, while we get Rush Hour 3. I will take that one... thank you very much.

Why are so many people concerned about studios final 2007 lineups? Its the end of the year people, movies can't be announced and produced in a shorter amount of time.
a lot of it has to do with the stocking stuffers that people will be looking to buy to add to the new HDTVs and HD players and game consoles people will be getting this winter... this year will be a big year for HD enthusists as it will add a lot of new consumers as well. people holding out for a PS3 will get one and a few games and movies to with it. if the titles are good, it's going to be an easy choice (BD) for consumers to make...

Good news for Blu!. less competion, if their even is any
You make it sound like they're bailing, but either your spin is amazing or your reading comprehension is suspect. Timecop is slated for release December 26, which is the very last week of the year. According to this list, Universal has 16 more titles coming this calendar year.

Did not make it sound like that, ITS THE LAST FRIGGIN TITLE ANNOUNCED FOR THE YEAR, which means the other 16 we already know.

You certainly did before you edited your thread title and post.

What's your point then? They have new releases nearly every week through the end of the year.

What is my point.............ok!
That means that Universal Studios is not going to announce any more hddvds for this year, besides the ones that they already announced which i am sure you know by now. so if you have an hddvd player and were expeting more ANNOUNCEMENTS, then nomore. i should have put that as a title sorry! ugh

Question, are you and HD-DVD supporter? You are definitely sounding like you are in the corner of this battle. All he was saying was that this is a lousy way to end off the year. The title won't sell #'s and they should have ended it with a bang if they were positive HD-DVD was going to win.

December 04, 2007
Battlestar Galactica: Season One (Universal)

December 11, 2007
The Bourne Ultimatum (Universal)
The Jason Bourne Collection (Universal)

December 18, 2007
Balls of Fury (Universal)

December 26, 2007
Timecop (Universal)

Is that considered huge support into a big selling season?

People were whining that Disney isn't doing enough a few weeks back:

December 04, 2007
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (Buena Vista)

December 11, 2007
High School Musical 2 (Walt Disney)
Lost: The Complete Third Season - The Unexplored Experience (Disney)

December 18, 2007
Underdog (2007) (Walt Disney)

I agree. That's a joke of a release schedule. Seems to me Universal is releasing crap because they have to release on HD-DVD. Perhaps the good stuff will come when they switch to Blu? Pure speculation!

However, I am not impressed by a long shot. They can keep their crap. Time Cop? Who the hell thunk that up?

What happened to ending the year with a BANG?

My PS3 is my blu-ray player. I don't have an HD-DVD player. If the format war continues, I'll probably buy one.

Reading the first page of replies it's clear some people bought his implication that Universal was somehow "giving up". They're not.

The last title they sell in a given year means nothing. Neither does the first title. Why would you attach significance to it?

Its not that its the last title, its their lack of support for any big titles to end the 4th Quarter. Your going to tell me that a big studio like Universal is only going to release about 20 movies for the 4Q with their biggest hit being Bourne. That doesn't look very good for HD-DUD and its fan base.
