I remember hearing about this. Don't know why there was a surge that day. Wasn't Bluray.com mentioned in the news or on some TV program ? that could explain the surge.

Rumors were flying around that Walmart would have a PS3 on on sale with 10 free Blu-ray movies on Black Friday

The good old days of the war...

One of the thread that was going around that time...

Has to be when Dreamworks and Paramount went to HD-DVD or WB went to BR.

Edit: Looked it up and Para/Dream went Aug 27th

I guess it was the Wal-Mart thing. I originally thought it was the duct tape thread...

The AVS forum HD section was shut down 11-07-07 to 11-12-07 because of the format war.
This is a quote from Engadget
'Apparently, a number of hot-headed posters have not only been dissin' supporters of (insert rival format here), but some have lashed out at other members with "physical threats that have involved police and possible legal action."'

I could've sworn it was the whole 20% off at KMart for PS3s deal.

European Blu-ray Chairman calls HD DVD Group's actions "unbelievable"

Quote:
While it's not exactly a surprise that the Blu-ray folks are getting in yet another tussle with their counterparts in the HD DVD camp, the latest comments by the Blu-Ray Disc Association's European Chariman Frank Simonis do up the ante quite a bit, with some alleged misrepresentation of data on the HD DVD Group's part drawing most of his ire. More specifically, according to Tech.co.uk, Simonis is upset at the significantly higher "attach rate" that the European HD DVD Group recently touted, which Simonis now says was a "gross misrepresentation of data." Simonis goes on to claim that the HD DVD Group "manipulated" the data, adding that, "you can see this because they did not even supply access to the original source of their numbers." As if that wasn't enough, he then further slams the HD DVD folks by saying, "Honest to God, the Blu-ray Disc Association would never do this. We've seen so much rubbish come from the HD DVD Group it's unbelievable."
I'm not sure if this is it but it was posted on Engadget 11/13/07 at 1:39pm. Thats pretty close.

I thought it involved a "rumor" of Warner going Blu that originally started at AVS. Can't quite remember who it was that said he got the rumor PMed to them though.
