Unless the audio encode is DTS-HA Master Audio, we are better off with uncompressed PCM. It is or is very close to the digital master of the original film. Very few players stream the highest level of DTS and only the newest receivers decode it.

That said, studios pick their audio and I don't know what Disney prefers. I don't know if/when we'll see Disney's stuff with DTS.

Oh, welcome to blu-ray.com.

Since BD can handle PCM without sacrificing video quality, I'd prefer everybody just go that route. Dare to dream.

DTA-MA is considered to be better then Dolby TrueHD is that right? That's sort of what I've been hearing from people, reviews, and such.

I thought there would be no difference in quality since they're both lossless and they're essentially just containers...what makes DTS-MA better?

I find it interesting myself. Since Dolby TrueHD is supposed to be lossless.... why does it sound SOOO much different than PCM???!!?! TrueHD seems to have more mid range in Ghost Rider.

Well, in theory the output from DTS-HD MA, Dolby TrueHD, and PCM would be identical. In reality, there can be some differences, especially with TrueHD, as Dolby includes a dialog normalization "feature" in their encoder... so what you get out is not identical to what was compressed. Paidgeek has mentioned before that Sony's TrueHD tracks have this essentially turned off, but that's not the case with other studio's titles.

Personally, I like DTS-HA MA, once everyone can actually decode it. It gives those with high end home theatres lossless audio (without dialog normalization), and gives everyone else regular DTS... which is the best audio most people's receivers are designed to decode.

Just my $.02.
