My biggest pet peeve when buying movies is when they have a slip case (which i like) or prefer. But when the store puts a price sticker on the case and there is no shrink wrap on top then when the try to remove the sticker it doesn't come off And leaves a bunch of sticky residue left. And it ruins the slip case.
I bought Fight Club on Blu Ray, and that happened to me So I returned it to the store, and ordered it on amazon, (i saved a $1) so it is a benefit.) Just i hate it when best buy puts their white price tag stickers on them (the yellow ones are fine, because they come off easy.) This happened to me before. What does anyone else think of this. So i have to wait a few days until i get to watch fight club, but its all good because i picked up some other things, i needed and cant find in any stores. So i guess it balances out. |

I agree Best Buy does this all the time and it messes up the box when you peel the sticker off. They have been doing this ever since they opened. And don't plan on them changing their style.
That is why I prefer Amazon. Better prices and better packaging care compared to BB in my experiences. |

I hate the large black security tags BB puts on the left-hand side inside the case. Those were a b##ch to get off until I tried a hair dryer. It might work with the tags you are talking about - turn the hair dryer up all the way and blow the hot air on the tag - the heat helps to remove the sticky. It works great with those security tags.

I don't care as I always throw away the slip cover anyway. The only exception is Transformers 2 because all the movie and disc information is on the back of the slip cover and NOT on the back cover of the paper insert. THAT really pissed me off! I also hate it when a movie comes in a paper case like "Natures Most Amazing Events" and "Baraka" but at least recent versions of Baraka come in the nice blue plastic case.

I just use a hair dryer at a lower setting and constantly move it back and forth over the sticker. Don't leave it blowing in one spot. After 30 seconds or so, you can gently peel away the sticker and almost all of the time, no residue is left. If a bit is left, the I take a piece of scotch tape and blot the residue area until all the sticky goo is gone.

I have found a great trick to get rid of the residue left by stickers.
Get a bottle of at least 90% isoprophyl alcohol, some q-tips, and a paper towel. Dip the q-tip in the rubbing alcohol and use the wet end to rub the sticker resudue off the cover. Keep the blu-ray inside so you can apply plenty of pressure. You may have to repeat this process a few times. When complete use the paper towel to dry off your shiny new slip cover. ![]() Hope this helps. -Dave |

What is the conversation like with the store clerk when you return a movie because of the packaging? I could never do it. Are the slip covers really in the same catagory as mint comics or Star Wars Action Figures still in the boxes? |

If my movie didn't come with a slip cover I would bring the receipt and my movie and just take another slip cover from the shelf. |

Depending on the type of slipcover, I use Goo Gone. It can be found just about anywhere. It doesn't take much, and it will get rid of the residue left. If it looks like it might damage the slipcover, then I'll simply use scotch tape and blot it off slowly. Goo Gone works perfectly on the residue left from the security stickers on the case, but you have to be careful not to use alot or get it on the artwork. I have no problems with the stickers Best Buy uses since it is something that they feel they need to do.
What I hate is when the sticker actually causes damage to the slipcover when I'm removing it. I'm careful with them, but it sometimes happens. I never tried the blow dryer though, so I might give that a shot. I also hate when I don't notice that the artwork is not centered in the case, and when you remove the security stickers off, you catch and damage the artwork. I know some people don't care about these things and all they really want is the disc to be in perfect shape. I just hate it 'cos it is like brand f*#%in' new, and the artwork or slipcover that shows off the movie becomes damaged before you even get a chance to watch it (or as your watching it if you are like me). I liken it to something like buying a brand new car right off the showroom floor, and then getting it scratched in some way right as you go out on your first spin after taking ownership of it. |
