I got a 42" and probably sit about 10-12 ft away. I can't imagine sitting 6 ft away, that just sounds crazy to me.

Buy the size you can afford, and arrange your room as best you can to enjoy life. Stop worrying about the stupid charts.

Actually, isn't his plasma a 720p set (768)? which according to that chart puts him at about 8 feet when watching HD material.
Don't forget either these 1080p viewing distances or only relevant when actually watching something in 1080i/p. For a 42 inch 720p plasma 8 feet from screen to eyes will be perfect for most things. And Xneox is right, enjoy! |

I'm curious if this measurement is from tv to the eyes, or tv to the front of the couch. Because 4 feet seems hard to pull off to me in most rooms if your talking tv to eyes while seated back into the couch or whatever.
From my 46 inch, if I sit way back into the couch, the max distance from screen to my eyes right now is just over 7 feet. So most of the time, I'm at less than 7 feet on my 1080p 46 inch which I use pretty muich exclusively for HD content. |

I don't think you need to be 8ft away from a 42" 720p set. I'm about 8ft away from my 50" 768p set and it is perfect. I prefer the look of being just on the too close side. I like to make out fine grain in the pixels when I watch movies.
![]() Sure, if the display can't process very well or you have crappy signals going into it, you might want to be farther away. |
