I know this is the New Moon thread but just a news bit Robert said that Eclipse was pushing into an R rating. Now I haven't read it so no spoilers but I could see the last book go into R rating because of what I have heard.

I also don't think an R rating would hurt the box office might hurt midnight openings since you need an adult but I think parents would still take their kids/teens to it.

I'm not so sure about that. If you think about it, MAYBE JUST MAYBE the girls 15 and above would be able to convince their parents, 14 and under although might plead would probably have a difficult time. Some one, but you can't say that it won't take a substantial drop in the box office if you change the ratings. Because, pushing an "R" rating takes it away from the family friendly aspect or the perceived cleaned up version that is PG-13, although Meyer's version is pretty cleaned up version anyway of the vampire mythos.

Well according to my friends the books are quite gory, and I guess it would take away that 'tween' maker of its head, so I guess this is technically good news, I always like films that go for ambitious film-making, exspecially ones that seem to be around just for the money.

Yes !!

Glad to see "Memories of Murder" as one of your favorite films. It's one of mine also. Just behind "Blow Out" and "The Player".

Just my opinion but I think it would be unwise to have a "R" rated film in the Twilight franchise, purely going by what the films target audience is and box office revenue. Sure no matter what it will be seen by those kids, but you'll probably have the kids mom go see it first before allowing the child to go. Then you run into the fact that a parent or guardian is needed to see a "R" rated film and don't know to many parents who would want to go back and see a film 3 times just so there kid can watch it again and again.

I never imagined Twilight would become this big.As a book collector I met Stephenie Meyer right when Twilight the book came out,I think it had only been out for about 2 weeks. She did a signing in Sebastopol California and only 10 of us were there, not kidding. Kind of like HP,J.K. Rowling did a signing in Petaluma for Sorcerer's Stone and only 15 people showed up, it took the third book for it to really catch on here in the states and take off. Then I met Rowling for Azkaban and there were hundreds of fans. Already the signed 1st prints in the Twilight series are dropping in price, this is a indicator. Much like Potter after time the value or market has dropped, it used to be that there was no way you could get a authentic signed Rowling for less than $800, now you can find them for $400.
Sure I'm talking about books and not movies, but these are the most collectible items you can get when it comes to Twilight.
Next big film franchise from books ???
Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson !!!

I could see Eclipse maybe getting an R, but that is dependent on what they put in and how they do it.

Now for Breaking Dawn, I really see no way around that not being rated R. If they avoid the scene that would cause the R rating, Twilight fans everywhere would go ballistic.

Yeah but I think most parents would still take them because it's still Twilight just with an R rating just like Harry Potter if the last 2 movies were R rated their would still be a ton of kids in that film because it's still Harry Potter just with an R rating.

With todays world R ratings also don't mean much kids as young as 6 are watching R rated movies not the bad one's like Saw or something like that but other ones so a 15 year old seeing an R rated movie in theaters isn't that uncommon.

So, we're in agreement that there would be a slight drop off or no?

If any of them would get a "R" rating it would be Breaking Dawn, I agree.
And I also agree if they tamed that part down or avoided the scene you would have some very pis*ed off teenage girls and there mom's.
I know I'll get railed for this but I didn't really like New Moon the movie, and I can't get past Shark Boy (Taylor) and his stiff performance. Although I think New Moon was the weakest book in the series, things can only get better.

Who's shark boy? The werewolf kid?
All the performances were stiff to me, except Michael Sheen. I felt bad for him having to be in company of such ***** little vampires and horrible actors. I think i liked the first one better, and that's saying something. Kristen Stewart may be the worst actress i've ever seen.

How much it makes doesn't make it a good movie.
Phantom Menace pulled in $924,317,558 Worldwide doesn't mean it's a great movie. It's a fad, the "it" movies of the time.

Yeah I agree there would be a drop off but I don't think it would be major where the movie won't break some kind of record.

Depends on where you're standing.

If you're a studio Exec, and you worked for Summit entertainment, then having a movie almost triple it's budget in the first weekend is certainly meaning that it's a 'good movie'

If you're a fanboy on a forum board and you come into a thread just to bash something you haven't seen yet, then YMMV.

Completely right. Making money is great for the studios, but that doesn't mean that the film is quality. A film can be absolute trash and make a ton of money because of its built-in fanbase or, as you say, being a "fad." Definitely correct.

Wrong. It means it is a good investment, not a good movie.

Obviously context isn't your strong suit.

A good investment in a movie, means that it's a good movie. Especially if you're a production company.
