Default Help w/calibrating Sharp LCD... anyone?

Hey folks,

I'm sending out a call for assistance to all my fellow BD'ers and HT enthuiests out there. I am looking for some reccomendations as far as calibrating my Sharp Aquos LC37D62U.

I've spent considerable time over the past month (since I purchased it) trying to tweak it "just right" for watching my BD's and I can't help but feel that I could go that extra step in making it sing! My question is this; can any of you fine folks give me your recommendations as far as picture settings go? While most of the BD's I've viewed do look fantastic, there are time when I feel that I'm not getting the m ost from my picture.

I understand that I can just wait for the new Video Essentials BD to come out but I am an impatient sort who wants the best right now.

If anyone could post thier picture settings for me to try out that would be great.

Much appriciated,

Bluzombie.

try to find out if there's a service code to enter the calibration menu... i have ones for sony bravia but nothing for sharp aquos (though i highly recommend not doing this unless you know exactly what you're doing... else you could have a very expensive rainbow colored panel)

To get to the service menu unplug the tv, then hold the input button and volume down button and then plug the tv back in. The tv will turn on in about 5 sec, you don't need to hit the power button. I don't know how to use those menus though so I've never messed with those settings.

I have an Aquos LC52D62U and my normal settings are:

OPC: off
backlight: -10
contrast: +30
brightness: -3
color: 0
tint: 0
sharpness: -4

You're going to have limited mileage using someone else's settings as how their room's ambient light as quite a bit to do with the front-panel settings.

If you want to kick-it-up to all it can be, go check out the ISF www.imagingscience.com

Are those calibration DVDs worth it?

I suggest going to dynamic contrast and use the setting slider where colours are mid range and tweek brightness and contrast

rainbows only happen in first generation dlp and old 4x3 sets

do Not Go Playing With The Service Menu Unless You Know What You're Doing And Have Written Down All Starting Values. You Can Permanently Screw Up Your Tv

Thanks for all the help so far guys! Yeah, I see a few of you mention that I should/shouldn't go into the service menu. I'm not planning on it. I did this once with an old Tosh CRT and nearly did it in. I understand that peoples room styles, lighting conditions vary and will affect all of our images in diffrent ways, I'm just curious to try out a few diffrent settings and see if they impact my image.

Keep 'em coming... you guys are great!

I change mine all the time

I set my computer CRT at 1600x900 - powerdvd at -13 brightness, zero colors, -6 contrast, saturation +10

never have any problems

we're talking about the hidden service menu... like options that will perminately fubar your tv if you don't know jack. kinda like tinkering with your computer with the power on... not a good idea.

The good ones are for sure.

Video Essentials is a good series all round for the DIY adjustments and if you have the equipment (i.e. colorimeter) the disc actually is quite useful as well.

The new digital versions which will include the BD version has patterns specifically designed for fixed-pixel displays like LCD and DLP which is more relevant than some of the patterns that are designed for CRTs.
