Default Sound on my Sharp LCD

I have two HDMI devices hooked up to my Sharp LCD; my cable STB and my PS3.

Seems that whenever I switch on my tv and one of the devices, there will be a picture but no sound. If I'm on the cable input, and the STB is on, changing a channel on the STB will bring the sound back. Or if I'm on the PS3 input, I have to switch the input to something else and back again.

Every time.

Is this likely a problem with my HDMI cables? They were cheap ones from ebay but I'm led to understand that it shouldn't matter.

I can't find any setting in my TV's menu that might somehow affect this.

Edit I think I fixed the cable STB by changing Audio output from Dolby Digital to HDMI - but any idea what the setting on the PS3 should be then?
