For the money, you can't do any better. It has plenty of HDMI inputs, lots of power, decodes EVERY HD audio codec and comes with everything you need right in the box. It even sets itself up with the built in Audyssey system. And the good thing is, you can upgrade the speakers at a later date, if you want to. That's not true with most HTiBs. The only caveat is the supplied speaker wires. They are a bit on the thin side. I would suggest replacing them with something a little thicker, such as either 12, 14 or 16 gauge wire. You can purchase this, along with all of your other hook up cables ( HDMI, etc ) from http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp . They have the best prices and quality on the web. Otherwise, go for it ! You won't be sorry.

Why would he need pre-outs to upgrade the speakers?

If the speakers that he might upgrade to function better with more available power then a seperate dedicated power amp would be necessary. That power amp is connected to the receiver via "pre-outs" then the speakers connect to the power amp. lets say he wanted to get some sweet, power hungry 4 ohm speakers, BAM, he needs a power amp (8 - 4 ohm certified) to drive them, properly and safely.
that's why. ![]() |

BTW, if you do decide to go with the Onkyo(best in its range imo), do get better speaker cables. The stock ones are useless. |

I think everyone agrees, that for the price, the Onkyo HT-S6200 is the best system available today. Many, many people purchased the HT-S6100 last year, and have built upon it as the center of their HT system. You can't go wrong with one.

I like this thread. I've been drooling over this system for a couple of months and it is good to hear confirmation that it is a decent system. Also, the speaker wire concerns I've read in a number of reviews, so it is good that this advice is consistent.

Got mine last month from NewEgg based on listening to it in Fry's. Would have bought it from Fry's but they were charging $599.99 and offered no Interest free Financing options. I already had a NewEgg account and they gave me 6 months Deferred/Interest Free, free shipping and it was $549.99.
I must admit though that my experience with home theater systems is quite limited and the main reason I picked this up was to compensate for audio that my PS3 does not process (it's been a while since I looked this up but there was something the PS3 didn't do). My old Home Theater was a seven year-old RCA RT2280 and had only coaxial and optical digital inputs for Dolby D. Can someone give me some advice as far as setup is concerned regarding using the S6200 system in conjunction with my PS3 (specifically for playing BD) effectively. What should my PS3 settings be at? What should my receiver settings be at? Thanks. Last edited by Captainhawk1; 12-20-2009 at 05:20 AM. |

After reading about this HTiB, i pulled the plug today. I'll be getting it in tomorrow from Amazon.com @ $530 shipped. It'll be replacing my Logitech Z-5500, which will be moving to my PC so talk about an upgrade, eh? It's my first actual HT system so i'm excited to receive it and set it all up. I'll be replacing the speaker wire with some 14 or 16 AWG somewhere down the road, too.
-Thanks to this forum and it's members for making this decision a lot easier than i thought it would be. |

Well, being a first timer to all this HT goodness, Audyssey made me happy. Speaker setup was a breeze with this feature and after fooling around with the settings on my PS3 i decided to play Terminator: Salvation. I set the receiver to Multi Channel and my PS3 told me it was running DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 so everything worked great right away. Coming from the Logitech Z-5500 system and having never heard anything beyond regular ol' DTS and the likes, i can honestly say i was completely blown away and overwhelmed by what the HT-S6200 threw at me. The sheer amount of sounds and noises around me surprised me so much, i sat there with my mouth open throughout the entire scene. The shoot out in Heat was startling as well. Never before had i heard the bullet casings hit the ground, and the shattered glass rolling down the hoods of the many cars on the intersection.
Without going into too much detail, the $530 i spent on this set is most likely the best cash i ever spent on electronics. I also got District 9 today so i tried the GoW3 demo and even that sounds truly amazing on this new system. I am ecstatic, to say the least. If you're on a budget, or don't want to hassle with mixing and matching (like me), the HT-S6200 is an amazing buy and i highly recommend this HTiB to anyone and everyone. |

I honestly couldn't answer your questions regarding the Yamaha and Bose speakers because i quite simply have no idea what the others sound like. However, as far as music Blu's go...i own "The Last Waltz", and man does that disc sound good. It's really like you're right there, in the middle of the crowd, cheering at The Band. As old as it is, and as good as it sounds, i can only imagine how awesome the new stuff will sound. Like i said man; if you're on a budget and you want quality bang for your buck, go for this set. I guarantee you, it won't disappoint.

There's not a soundbar in the world that can compete with a good 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 system. And, as for Bose......despite the hype and commercials, they are absolutely among the WORSE sound systems on the market. There aren't any regulars on any AV forum on the web who would even CONSIDER "Blose" products. They are cheaply made from cheap materials and WAAAYYYY overpriced. And, as they saying goes....... NO HIGHS, NO LOWS....MUST BE BOSE !!
