Panny V10 vs. LED 120hz

Feb or March of next year I will be getting a new tv. I am undecided about getting a 50" Panasonic V10 Plasma or a 46" or 55" Samsung LED (120hz). Any advice would be appreciated and thank you in advance.

Um.. I love my Panny but LED is where it's at right now. If you can afford a 55" LED then go for it. If you don't you'll prolly hate yourself later.

If you plan on waiting until then you may want to hold out and see what new sets will be released for 2010. If I'm not mistaken Panasonic starts releasing sets around Mar-April so there may be something better coming. The V10 may be cheaper as the new sets are released as well.

As for Samsung, their best model has just been released which is the B8500 which is local dimming. Its an excellent set, but a bit pricey. Of course the price may have dropped a good deal by the time you are ready to make your purchase so you should still keep it in mine.

The only edge-lit Sammy I would suggest you consider is the B8000, but I think that you would be much happier with the B8500 if you go the LED route. Other LED's you should consider are the LG and Sharp models which are also excellent and easier on the pocket.

Unfortunately, I can't speak as to the quality of the samsung led you mentioned. I simply wanted to say that the v10 is far more impressive than my previous hdtvs (both plasma and LCD). Any reason you're considering the 55-inch samsung, but not the 54-inch panasonic v10? I've got the 58-inch, and I wish I'd gotten the 65.

Without a doubt, the Panasonic V10. This is, in my opinion, absolutely the best HDTV on the market today. If you search the web, particularly sites and forums that deal specifically with HDTVs, you'll find a LOT of complaints about the LED back lit and side lit LCD sets, not to mention the relatively bad reliability and customer service associated with Samsung. Also, with plasmas, you do NOT have problems with motion blur, lag times, limited viewing angles and poor black levels common to LCD TVs. And, yes, by March, the new 2010 sets should be arriving with updated technology. And, one major factor comes into play - Panasonic has purchased the licensing and technology from Pioneer for their Kuro series ( along with hiring the technicians ), and have been implementing it since April of this year. This technology should be present in their 2010 HDTVs. Pioneer Kuros have long been acknowledged as the pinnacle of state-of-the-art HDTVs. What is great now, should be even better next year.

2nd best actually. In two different shoot-outs, it was bested by the KRP-500M.
Next years Panasonics should be very good though.

Well I think a 50" is more ideal for my living room.. The seating distance ranges from 8ft to 12ft. If I get an LED, I actually want to get the 46", but the wife is says why not get the 55" and in our next house it will be good for my man cave. And right now the Samsung 120hz LEDs only have the 46" and 55" available. The Panny has my ideal 50" available and thats why I only asked about that size...

I would love to pass on all these and get the newer Panasonic Plasma that comes out next year but I have somewhat of a budget. Being we only have one income for myself, wife and 2 kiddos I will have to settle for this years model tv as opposed to next years. I want this tv to last me a good 3 to 5 years before considering buying another main tv.

With everything you just detailed in this post, buy the V10.

If you want to get comparable quality in a Samsung LED-lit LCD tv, you'll have to spend 60% more than what you'd pay for the V10 (55" 8500 = $3800; 54" V10 = $2400). The 8500 series is the only one worth looking at (Lojack's first recommendation). The edge-lit just won't compete.

As for size, go for the 54". I sit about 9' from my 50". It's great, but 54" would have been better.

I agree with most of what you said. The Pioneer Kuro KRP-500M is the best display money can buy (though it only comes in a 50").

Followed by the Pioneer Pro 151/141 Elite series. The Samsung 8500 ranked almost as high as the Pioneer's, but I still say the best bang for someone is the V10 series which in my opinion is one of the best displays I've seen. Think about it. You can get a 58" V10 for around 2200.00 if you know where to look. The 55" Samsung is roughly 3300.00 (Price I can get for people) or roughly 3600.00. So, that's more than a thousand dollar difference and you are getting a bigger display! It's a no brainer. Plus if you do your research, you will find that the Samsung's are having displays (crop circle issues) at this time. Yes, it's actually called "crop circles" and Samsung is supposedly coming out with a firmware to fix it.

If you look hard enough, The 60" Pioneer Elite's 141/151 can be found for around 3900.00. (That's what I got mine for)

Oh, BTW, Panasonic will NOT be using Pioneer's technology with there displays. They have gone on record saying the technology is to pricey and to hard to produce. Panasonic likes their assembly line to move fast and if they went with Pio tech, it would slow it down considerably. (that is a fact unfortunately)

Since they are still being sold, they are "on the market". Get over it, your V10 is not "the best", although it is still very good.

Correct. Thank you.

You can still find most Kuro's models on the market especially the 500M. I bought the Pro 151 2 weeks ago and I know a lot of guys on my board who are buying them daily. The best panel on the market is the KRP -500M following by the 9G elite series. Though I'm not a big fan of Samsung, the 8500 outscored the V10.

The NeoPDPeco panels are a mixture of Viera and Kuro technology...they will make their first appearance in next year's models.

I'd steer clear of even the 8500 unless you don't mind sitting dead center. With the V10 or Kuro's every seat in the house is good. For the off-axis black levels and price the V10 clearly bests the 8500.
